yeah. mine is a mex, beautiful guitar.
only difference between USA and mex is a Mexican is built in Mexico by mexicans, and a USA is built in the united states by mexicans.

Logan ripped you off, man. He's probably halfway to Mexico right now with your neck pickup tied up in the trunk.

Is that swamp ash?

There's actually a Strat pickup under the pickguard

Pretty sneaky, sis!

When you do that, do you need to use a higher output pickup?

I'm thinking about opening it up and checking it out. When I switch to the neck, it seems/feels like flipping on the rhythm circuit of a Jazzmaster and there IS a volume drop. I've got a SD Hotrail sitting on my counter at work that may find it's way there.

Or not, maybe I'll find a use for it. Definitely would work great for leaving ambient noises roll for when I switch to the keyboard for some songs. Post Rock, y'know?

Plus, I've always loved the look of Esquires, never had one. This is cool.

Got an email back from Bob with the specs:

"Neck, medium jumbo frets, 9.5 radius, all nitro finished.
Swamp ash body in weathered grey with 100% nitrocellulose lacquer finish.
Vintage split shaft tuners, (15-1 ratio)
Vintage ashtray bridge with brass compensated saddles.
Seymour Duncan broadcaster bridge, wilkinson dual rail strat pickup under guard.
D'Addario 10-46 strings. "

Pretty standard stuff. Seems like there's already a dual rail under there! However, I've found a lot of great sounds with it, so I'll probably leave it alone.

I'm looking at getting a Telecaster in the near future (within the next 6 or 7 months) and figured I'd ask you dudes about it. I'm looking to start doing session work for people I know on banjo and pedal steel, so I figure it couldn't hurt to pick up a decent Telecaster to do some guitar stuff as well. Why pay another person to play lead guitar when I'm already doing the other instruments?

I was thinking something no more than $800. I workat a music store so I can get a discount on stuff, so new is better than used. I was also thinking that I would get a Hipshot bender, one of the ones that does the B and G.

I really dig Candy Apple Red, but that's not really a huge consideration. I really dislike the look of dark fretboards on blonde necks and dark fretboards on Fenders in general, so something with a maple fretboard.

For other features, I don't really care for anything specific other than preferring a single for the neck pickup. Single for the bridge could be nice as well, but doesn't matter so much.

Used USA G&L ASAT or local custom build for sure. Absolutely the best Tele for the buck. I think the general consensus is that Fender makes the most vanilla Tele's on the market.

Are you looking for the classic singlecoil Telecaster tones?

Or more beef? More variety?

Answering the questions Danny has would be helpful.

However, as a generic, my favorite model Teles are usually the ASAT Classic, the ASAT Special, and the Pete Anderson Eastsider S from Reverend. I've recently been very into Logan, but they're hard to come by if you're not from the midwest.

Mainly just the classic twangy clean country sounds with some slap back echo and a compressor and the occasional moderately hi-gain leads. The clean sounds are the important ones though.

My go to for what you just specified is the 2006 (pre-Greasebucket circuit) Highway One. It's purely preference - the neck profile and stock PUs and it works from Country (Fender and Rivera amps) to high gain (VH4 and Twin Jet).

This Logan plays like a madman. It's definitely converting me from being an ASAT purist. I'll have to make a NGD soon. I think perhaps on my next day off so I can record some samples for you duders.

Have you ever played a Rice? Very similar, unbelievably nice necks. Used to have a hollow pine one that transitioned from a super soft V to a C profile around the 5-7 frets.

I think the first Tele I make is a 72' Deluxe style. Probably easy to start with a body style that allows me to cover it almost entirely with a pickguard.
