Sherlock Jr. is 45 minutes long, on Youtube & Netflix and one of the 5 best films ever made.

So that.

If you have time The Godfather part 2. Miles better than part 1, but I think part 1 probably gives you enough context to enhance part two. So you'd have to commit to both.

Metropolis is fantastic. Genuinely impressive to look at.

Thin Red Line is a masterpiece. Get on that.

Agguire Wrath of God is also pretty special.

It's not quite in the same league as the above but I find it impossible not to love Almost Famous.

Just back from Mad Max. Basically it's the best action film I've seen in a long while and everybody is right except for seventh. I'll probably talk more about it over time but all that needs to be said has been said already. So I'll just review cinemas.

Cinemas are awful. It's nice if you get in a quiet screening and have space to stretch out but if you're in a full screening then I'm basically wishing for death the whole time. I doubted my relationships with some of my closest friends for 2 hours. I thought what would happen if I actually just fought the stranger next to me for the arm rest. Realised the mortality of man and slipped into an existential depression at one point. Then as soon as the lights came on, back to normalcy. Cinemas change people. Everything should just be VOD. 2 stars.

Aye but Mad Max, quality.

There Will Be Blood was fun. I don't think I went into it with the right mindset, but I could still find a lot to love. Interesting that I've never heard people talk about Kubrick influence in it but I seemed to find quite a lot of it. I didn't really get why H.W. tried to set them on fire, though? I'm thinking I might check out a bit of one of David Attenborough's series tonight, not sure if I want to commit to another entire film. Or some Daredevil.

The nerve of him, honestly. What's even the point in children?

The future of cinema is screens which have a device that blocks seething anger. None of this 3D, 48FPS, D-Box nonsense. Or just 2 armrests between seats. Fuck sake.

Not trying to be condescending about it but Kubrick is like the first thing people think of with TWBB (and like 3 other later PTA films to a lesser degree)

Nah, I'm not insinuating that most people don't notice it or anything. I've just personally never once heard it mentioned which I thought was strange for me to have never heard. Because I assume a lot of people do talk about it, you know?

i didn't think of Kubrick at all, but i've only ever seen A Clockwork Orange and The Shining.

i have a Dr. Stangelove DVD at my mom's house i still haven't gotten around to watching. probably should have grabbed it when i was over there to take the bookshelf it was on.

The Shining was like 100% of what I thought about, truthfully. Mostly the shots of the derrick burning and the score.

i only watched The Shining last year, so next time i watch TWBB maybe i'll pick up on some of it.

i can definitely see the influences just from what i remember from TWBB, but i'll have to watch it again.
