How do I get started?

Hey guys, I'm a recording noob and I am looking to get more in depth in my in-home recording.

I currently have a DR-GX1 mic from my cousin and my amp. For now i've just been setting the mic close to the amp and running it straight into audacity via the line in jack on my computer.

I know this isn't correct and I'm looking to improve the tone and sound quality of my recordings.

So what do I need and what are the best bang for your buck items that I should look into? Any help would be appreciated.

What is your budget and what are you trying to achieve from your recordings?

I don't wanna drop too much maybe 200 or 300 at most if that is at all feasible and I just want something to record my ideas, with the possibility of overdubbing or adding other sounds later. I would also like to do full live band recording at once if its possible.
