Come on son. Drop the unnecessary elitism already.

Thanks UG!

Anyone got anything to suggest?

Obvious answer to me is The Chasm. Not Cynic or Necrophagist progressive, but it's progressive in its own strange way.

I'm not familiar with their first demo, but all of their full-lengths are fantastic (my favorites being Deathcult for Eternity and Farseeing the Paranormal Abysm) as is the Reaching the Veil of Death EP.

If you're trying to convince him, you're failing miserably.

Not exactly my cup of tea, but thanks anyway

Btw is this forum dead? I haven't been here in years, and I remember this used to be a quite busy place :/

Pseudo-elitist teens still run amok though.

It's not just this place. The forums here in general are way less busy than they used to be.

Also, I'd give The Chasm a few more chances before writing them off. They're a band that takes a while to grow on you. Maybe start with one of their more accessible albums like The Spell of Retribution.

Hey everyone, I recently discovered a band called Avatar and was wondering if anybody could recommend any similar bands. If you are unfamiliar with them here is a link to one of their songs. Thanks.

If it doesn't need to be actually from the 80's, check out Condor.

Like think Call of the Wretched Sea but not anything by Ahab

Vast Oceans Lachrymose - While Heaven Wept gives me that kind of vibe, even though its nothing like Ahab.

Great album. Haven't given it a good listen in while though. Thanks for reminding me

And yeah doesn't have to be like Ahab, just has to have that same kind of imagery.

Ah, another good example is Misery's Omen - Hope Dies
