If you are playing with a higain amp you really don't need super high output p/u's the amp does that for you, you will just get mushy and muddy really easy if your not really careful.

My V3M isn't super high gain though...

If your goal is to achieve high-gain, then you really should be using something, either an amp or a pedal, to achieve it. Simply adding hotter pickups will not get you there. And when I say high-gain, I don't mean more distortion, I mean a tighter metal sound.

So now, I'll have a humbucker in the bridge.

Now my pickup options are between a Seymour Duncan Blackout ABH-1 and an EMG 81.
I'm leaning towards the EMG, because i need high output, but also some clarity, and EMG 81 usually has more clarity than the standard Blackout.
Opinions?

Usually, EMG 81s are for neck pickups. That aside, I tend to find Blackouts more clear than EMGs. To me, there's a bit of muddiness with an EMG.

So, I'd go with the Blackout ABH-1.

I thought the 81s were for the bridge and the 85s and 60s were for the neck..

They are, though some people do prefer an 81 in the neck and an 85 in the bridge.

I've got my heart set on getting a Maxon 808 OD, but I gotta finish up this tele project first. If I sell my Charvel on craigslist I'll be all set to do both. ;D

I think I am going with the ABH-1. I was talking to my local guitar tech I use, and he recommended the Blackout because I would get more clarity.

Unless you can get one for cheap, don't waist your money on the 808, a TS9 is almost the same for 1/2 the price. Or get a Hardwire CM-2/Green Rhino.

I found a ts808 for $100 locally.
It's that, or save an extra $80 for the maxon od808.
I'm leaning towards the ts

the maxon 808 is the same circut as the Ibanez ts808. I think the Maxon is true bypass while the Ibanez is buffered.

Hmm. We'll I scooped that TS808 today, and while I'm not hearing a big different, I like it so far. I haven't got to toy around with it enough yet.

The tele project shall begin Wednesday, Ideally. Thats when
A. My parts are due to come in.
B. My stain and clear coating will be complete.
