schecter has several models that fit your bill. the banshee series are looking quite nice. they used to offer very few passive options for 7s but they've started doing just that. some form of the hellraisers are passive, the blackjack SLS, and new this year is the C-7 classic which is beautiful. most or all of their 7s are 26.5", maybe some new ones are 27"?

that tone could be killer with just a little tweaking. im no expert by any means, but for the gtr tone, id say a little less bass, maybe a hair more gain, and play the strings a little harder? the palm muted notes sounded a little weak. in my little bit of recording, ive noticed that ive had to pick the strings a bit harder to make my playing sound as aggressive as it does in my head. maybe that's just a characteristic of my eleven rack, but it seems to help my tone if it feels weak after I play back what ive recorded.

Understood. I'll hit the strings a bit more aggressively when I re record, though I don't expect it to make that big a difference, an RP500 I a far cry from an eleven rack. I tried cutting a bit of low end by moving the HPF up from 45 to 60, it did clean up the sound.

On a different note, I really feel like buying a new MFX just for the heck of it. Getting a wee bit bored of the RP, been using it for over 5 years now.

I can see a Boss GT10 going cheap. Should I pull the trigger? Feeling very tempted.

GT10's are alright, but they take a hell of a lot of patience to get anything decent coming out of them. I found them a bit of a pain in the arse to program as well.

If you're after something similar, the newer HD POD's from Line 6 are meant to be pretty good, but I've never tried one.

I was pretty happy with the little bit of playing ive done through the pod HDs. I played quite a bit through a friends pod x3 live (precursor to the HDs) only through headphones, never live, but I liked it as well. you have to be patient with those as well. in my country/rock band, my lead singer used one of those for a few years and never took the time to really dial in any tone and his always sounded awful if you are thinking more of finding something to record with but don't want to spend toooooo much money, look at an eleven rack. I think I paid $500 for it brand new (plus $99 for the upgrade patch that you'll definitely want if you're recording heavy) and it came with a full version of pro tools 9. IIRC, the axe FX 1 can't be used as an interface so you'd need something like an apogee whatever to record with it. I haven't looked at those used but I imagine the 1's aren't too terribly high priced.

and good thinking moving your HPF. ive read that for guitars, you don't really need much below 100 hz. let the bass shine in those frequencies.

^WTF... The frets are angled and jacked up. I have legitimately never seen that before. Whats the purpose?

Wow. Wikipedia doesn't seem to actually say what the purpose is.

Lower pitched strings (thicker strings) are longer. This allows for increased tension while keeping the higher pitched strings closer to a standard scale for playability.

It allows you to have a baritone scale on the thicker strings and a standard scale on the thinner strings, evening out string tension and helping intonation issues on the low end, as lemurflames said. It also is more ergonomic in most cases (unless you have a rediculous 3+ inch fan). The frets follow the natural arc your hand makes as you bring it closer to your body (your fingers point away from you when your hand is far out and towards you when your hand is close in.)

Novax was the real pioneer of the idea with modern instruments when they made a guitar what was 5 guitar strings and 3 bass strings. The bass strings needed a bass scale to intonate properly. Nowadays a lot of custom guitar companies do it. Strandberg, Skervisen, Mayones (?).

I do believe Mayones does it.

And it's a crazy expensive option.

In other non-ERG news. The Ibanez Prestige RG655 is now available with a maple fretboard. <3
