Err... Nut? or Saddle?
Nuts are generally glued in, if I'm not mistaken, whereas saddles are usually left as is, although companies such as Martin use a little bit of glue.

^-- It's not terribly uncommon for a nut to come loose. I don't see it alot, but have definitely seen it.
Maiden... if you don't have any local shops that do work on acoustics then you can get a new nut here: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Nuts,_saddles.html |

I think all-parts has generic nuts...dunno if it'd be easy to make one considering the material, either bone or plastic...but yeah stew-mac most likely has one..they got everything
edit: if you are gonna make one...my nut looks about 1/8 of an inch over the fret board and the slots are cut 1/16th of an inch or half-way down...I mean...its a start anyhow, Im sure someone else has a more exact number....good luck Last edited by kamikazekidd : 02-04-2009 at 04:18 PM. |

Nuts really depend on the width as well. They should, for the most part, be very similar.
However, you would probably need a proper nut slot file to do the job properly. If the slot isn't the right size or shape then you could run into tuning problems.

If you lived in Omaha I would make you a bone nut for free. Go to you local guitar store and have them put a bone nut on for you. Don't play it without one.

If it's the white thing that was sitting in the bridge, it's called the saddle. The nut is the white part up at the headstock that has 6 slots in it for the strings to fit in then they go to the tuners. It might look something like this: ![]() If that's the part you're missing then it's the saddle. If it looks more like the one in the pic below, then it's the nut: ![]() |

The easiest place I found was Ant Hill Music's acoustic guitar nuts page. Measure your dimensions and then just use the filters on the site. |
