I'm joying the greater diversity in the riffs I like their note selection better, the solos. I'm finding the riffs to be a bit better than the last album. Minus say that awesome fast part in Crucified. But other wise the last two albums have been pretty damn lackluster to me.

Don't get me wrong lol it's not like I'll hail it as the be all end all of melodeath or TBDM's disco. But I'm joying it a lot more than most of Ritual and basically all of Deflorate. So to me it'll be good for some casual listening given that beyond Miasma and Nocturnal they really haven't scored up into my circle of favorite bands

I love TBDM because they found a sound, and stuck to it, while still writing SONGS. I can remember every single one of their riffs, even though 3/4 of them are the same harmonic minor scales that they always use. It's their ability to refine that sound that keeps me coming back. Ritual was fantastic, so I can't wait to hear the full newie.

Calling it now: They peaked at Ritual; everything before and after (except for Deathmask Divine) is sub par tripe.

You're not allowed opinions on BDM, Lucas, we've been over this. You're terrible at them.

No, seriously, friend pointed out to me that they really do go in cycles.
Unhallowed was a great starting point, Miasma was ok at best, Nocturnal was mind blowing, Deflorate was pretty meh, Ritual was amazing, new album is pretty beige. Next album should be like the resurrection of Jesus, if my calculations are correct.

New album got 4 1/2 stars over at Metal Sucks...

Then again they've never been really that great at the whole "opinions" thing.

I read that review with the most puzzled look on my face.

Like, I don't actually disagree with it, but it's still an average album to my ears. I can understand what they're saying, and I agree with a lot of it, but by the same token, I feel like I'm getting annoyed simply because BDM did what they're best at and put out another solid album. Riffs are solid, production rules, songs are well put together... and yet it bores me. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS OPINION THING.

Haha. My previous comment was mostly trolling.

But yes, you're correct about the cycles. It's like the anti Star Trek pattern. Every odd one, rather than every even one.

I will forever hear that now when I listen to that song.

Nocturnal is still my favorite of their albums.

New album was better than I expected it would be, but still not as good as some of the others.
