What chord/scale am i playing?
im playing 5th fret high e string, 6th fret b string, 7th fret g string (not necesarilly together). also switching the 5th on the high e to 8th occasionally. im trying to write a song with it but im having trouble figuring out what key this is in/ what chord it is.

You're using the notes D, F and A on the G, B and E strings respectively. The 8th note on the high E is a C. They could be a lot of things really, depending on what notes you're playing first and last and what chord(s) should come next.

Basically D minor.
D as the root, F as the minor 3rd, and A as the 5th. |

looks to me like a 36" scale electrical power cord to me but i can't really confirm without schematics
