Mesa amp help please

So I've been a complete dumbass assuming that the Mesa I ordered would be set on the correct ohms. Finally opened it up today and there are two celestian v30s 16 ohm speakers, and they are plugged into the 16 ohm tap of the amp . The positive terminals of the speakers are connected together and the negative terminals are connected together. Is this wired to 8 ohms? I've already f'd up enough already, want to know for sure.

This also fixes the problem I thought I would have adding in a 4x12 cab though. Also, how much damage could have happened to this since not sure how long it was like this before I received it. Luckily it hasn't been cranked up past four.

Just to say, I believe this is parallel wiring and I should set the amp to 8 ohms, but no longer trust myself.

That's parallel, 8 ohms.

Thanks for confirming, now, was that a safe mismatch? I never touched it so no telling how long it was like that. I did get the year insurance so worse case I'm just out an amp for a bit while they have to fix or replace it.

That's normally a no-no, but if it hasn't broke yet I'd just correct and keep going. Mesas are tough as hell, they build them normally to be idiot-proof, you should be fine.

Thought that wasn't the safe mismatch. Damn. Well hopefully nothing bad came out of it, or if it did, hopefully it blows before the year runs out.

Test your speaker load with a meter to be sure but it sounds like 8 ohms. When you get in trouble is when you are really pushing the amp and you overheat the transformer. If it still works and hasn't caught fire, you are good to go.

I can play at any level I want that doesn't give my 4 month old hearing damage so I runs pretty hot when I play but not past 4 or 5 on the master. I have the channel volumes around noon post of the time

You should be fine, you probably strained your tranny a bit but as I mentioned Mesas are built like a brick shit house

Boogies can normally mismatch 1 step. Check the owners manual, it will even recommend you do it experiment with sound changes.

Well, it's been mismatched for a month with me, and no telling how long at GC and previous owners depending on when it was switched. Lets be conservative at a month. They can attack all they want if they are willing to try it with their amp for a month . I really wouldn't rec anyone do it of course, but sure don't do it with something that can't take normal household use without shitting itself. Ill stop the hate now

I seem to recall Cath once saying that OT damage, which would be your worst case scenario, is generally all or nothing... So if it works you're good.

Wow, so I had actually contacted Mesa customer service right before I opened the amp and made this thread, when I still thought it was running two eight ohm speakers at 16 ohms, and was asking what they would rec. Well mute point my question is now, but just got a call from a customer service guy at mesa boogie after about two hours (usually get customer service responses in two days via email from other manufactures) and the guy was awesome. I told him what I discovered and asked if I should be worried about any damage etc. and he said "no that won't damage that amp in any way". Guess they are made to withstand a mismatch.f

Either way, surprised I even got a call, especially in two hours. Pretty awesome. Never even got a response from Peavey back when I had issues with the 3120 after multiple emails over two weeks.

Was going to say, if your amp came with a manual, it discusses safe vs. unsafe mismatches. I have two Mesa amps here, so it's something I'm familiar with. On a tube amp, it's considered safe to connect a cab with higher impedance than the amp. So, plugging a 16 ohm cab into an amp rated for 8 ohms is perfectly fine.

If you didn't get a user's manual, here is the link to the manuals on their site.
