So, in lightroom you there's that slider call Temp. It makes the photo pretty much just bluer or more yellow. People call the blue side the cool side and yellow the warm side. They are mostly used to adjust white balance and make the colors truer, but I use them more to try to invoke a specific reaction out of the viewer.

Here's a half-ass snapshop I have of a dandelion.

Gotta love that ISO800 film grain! Right! Right?...

Anyway, I pushed a lot of yellows out of the colors to make you feel like it was a warm, dusky day. Sort of a "lying in the grass" perspective. I'm one of those touchy-feely idiots that prefer photos that feel like they have narrative.

I wish I got closer to it, the eye isn't naturally drawn to the dandelion until you follow the light.

I'm working with a couple local racing leagues, I'm going to start a blog about some of the local car scene. I'm looking for a name for it. The whole theme is that it's going to be DIY, local drivers with cars that are very about the purist aspect of driving. To couple that I'm going to use entirely and only film.

I'm thinking something with 'grassroots' in it has the feel. Or like "shutters and driveways."

negative

Getting back into paper negatives. Overexposed this one, but I should be able to save it with some pre-flashing...

set your camera to RAW if you can. JPEGs, even fine, are lossy files with inferior colour rendering and a severe lack of data. With a RAW you can do a lot of post-processing.

late edit: oh btw Nikon do a free RAW editor which is basically good/alright.

Eh, mostly 90's-early 2000's cars. First lined up is a 98 Fiero GT, then there's a 1997 240SX. Sort of a call back to when things were a bit more connected. I'm a bit of a romantic when it comes to driving.

I could see why a guy looking at buying an SUV wouldn't be into it.

There's only minor level work done to it in Lightroom. I don't have a macro lens or really even know what I'm doing.

Are the colors too fakebright?

processing wise it's fine really, you've just got to think abbot finding the composition while you're out taking the shot.

think about colour, think about isolation of the subject, think about the background.

Do you guys like car pictures? I did a big set of pics from Detroit's auto show (NAIAS). Probably the most pics I've ever taken at once really, I'm trying to get more serious about taking my camera everywhere. I also had to take all the pictures twice and go back a second day because my memory card died the first time. UNFORTUNATELY also managed to corrupt my brand new memory card the next day by accidentally leaving my camera on in its case and pulling the memory card from a camera that is on later in the day. Since this memory card still actually worked in some capacity, I was able to restore all the files using ZAR X, which is conveniently free for image recovery only. I also started shooting in RAW during this shoot since I've been using Lightroom to edit my photos and its been pretty sweet.

Here is the album: https://www.flickr.com/photos/13173...157663630183311

And a couple of my favorites here:

BMW headlight

BMW M2

Ford Mustang Fascia

Subaru Concept Taillight

I don't personally like the "#REFLECTIONS" aspect of motor show photos, so the up-close ones don't appeal to me personally. That M2 photo, though, is right fucking on. Great job capturing the activity, it gives the car a personality!

I like the second one too, but I think on the other three if you want to go tight you've gotta go really tight, like an abstract.

See in the last photo you've caught a bit of the number plate? It's distracting and shouldn't really be there. With these sorts of shots that sort of refinement is what you need to go from cool to wow.

For me, this is the best shot:

(as far as the closeups go at least)

btw does anyone know what happened with Will Manning? Dude used to do low-constrast colour portraiture? Used to post in here all the time, had a project called Little Toy Cars or something? He's disappeared off the face of the Earth...
