Two amp heads + ABY => Cab
So I have two amp heads. One for clean, one for distortion. I have an ABY that let's be pick which head I output to. Now, if both of these heads go into the same cab, is that safe since only one head will be pushing (substantial) power to the cab?

No never hook 2 amps to 1 cab unless that cab has a stereo inputs. If it is mono inputs it will not work and will possibly ruin both amps.

Wire up your cab in stereo if it isn't already. Left for one amp, right for t'other.

Yep, the stereo cab option would probably be your best bet. If not, Radial makes a head switcher for this type of setup, but it's only an A/B if memory serves.
