I know, but it is a blues that is centered around B. I figured he could work from there, since there are notes from both major and minor that can fit over it.

I gave a hand, assuming he could work from there. If he's not able to do that i would expect him to come back with further questions.

^^^ But blues still isn't a key, typically blues is in a major key.

I think you missed the point with that post, i am very much aware of that "B Blues" is not a key. I just thought i'd give him the tonal center of the backing track (which is B) and let him work out if it was in the key of B major or B minor himself. And if he wasn't sure i assumed he would come back to ask more questions. You know, not giving away the whole answer but letting people work abit?

Mate, you just taught TS that blues is a key. If he was smart enough to know that blues isn't a key he would have said "hey blues isnt a key". He's gone now, he has his answer - it's B blues. I don't think you can talk your way out of that one.

Yeah, but many times the TS stops reading the thread after he gets the answer. I think better answer would have been "it's a 12 bar blues in B". Because that answer doesn't state that blues is a key.
