this thread is ridiculous. so many songs have similar progressions its almost stupid to play it that way. a better title would be what acoustic riffs should you learn

I like this thread actually.
I find myself practising techniques far too often and when on parties, when someone hands me a guitar, I have nothing to play apart from a couple of riffs and things that I just happen to know. I'm going to learn some of these songs.

^ +1. Sucks to be handed the guitar at parties.

Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here" is very pretty on acoustic and it's easy to play and pretty much anyone will know it and join in.

Far Behind by Candlebox
4 chords through the whole song (G, Em, D, C), and if you can put in that main lick for an intro, it sounds real good on acoustic.

Daughter-Pearl Jam

Edit: I'd also like to add Karma Police-Radiohead, my friend does quite a good cover of it without much thought

DMB - What Would You Say

fun song and looks harder than it really is.

I don't know how people sing and play it at the same time though...

Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond
Got to know at least one chili peppers song, be it Under the Bridge, Soul to Squeeze, Californication, Snow, or any of their hits really.
Say It Ain't So - Weezer
Time Is Running Out - Muse

Lots of good songs already said.

Brown Eyed Girl is an absolute must for everyone though.

"Why Georgia" - John Mayer

Pretty easy, but has a tough part in the middle with some looong finger stretches on some power chords. The intro and verse is tight and easy. check it out.

I'd go with Sweet Child O Mine by Guns N Roses, Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd,
You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC, Bohemian Rhapsody is an awesome one if you can play it. I've got the Queen tab book and have learnt it. Cuz it's mostly piano, there are some really arrogant chords in it but it's probably the best party trick you can have on a guitar.
