1997 Epiphone G-310 Junior electronics restoration (Pics inside!)
Hey UG forums!
Edit: Found out that this is actually a Epiphone G-310 Junior made in 1997 so I deleted the first paragraph, I'll still do the restoration of the electronics and maybe some mods. Well onto the good stuff, I plugged it in and made some noise with it and realized that the pots were loose and the strings were old as hell, the low E pretty much unwound over time. I tried to tighten the pot that was loose and the bolt broke so I'm going to order some from Warmoth and re-do the electronics. I ordered a Gibson P90 for it already so it's going to be a full electronics job, I posted it on here because I'm sure some people will be interested in it. Edit: Pics! ![]() ![]() Pickup is kinda rusted ![]() Missing a pot knob, not sure if they are the original knobs ![]() Opened cavity ![]() Neckplate serial ![]() Back of headstock ![]() Front of headstock ![]() Family photo

Well if it is from the 70's it deff was not made in China. It looks like it was probably made in Japan.

Yeah, I didn't really find any information about factory codes from before 1972 but It could be from Japan.
I removed the strings and electronics, now to order new ones from warmoth ![]()

That is not a vintage guitar. it is a modern made in China guitar.
Who told your brother it was from 1971? they lied their asses off. That unfortunately is a $100 new guitar (at most).

No one told my brother it was from 1971, I assumed it because of the serial number but it's no problem. I'll still replace the electronics in it and play the hell out of it, it's still a guitar.

They have pretty cool looking bridges, Since this thing isn't as old as I initially thought I'll probably just redo all the hardware too and make it a sick ass guitar, I ordered a tan P90 a few days ago so I'll probably do something with the paint on the body to match, maybe more lines or something like my other SG.

Update: Purchased some new Pots, cap, knobs, 1/4 input and some wire today. Also Ordered a new bridge and my P90 should come in the mail today. Probably going to do the build sometime next week when everything comes in.
Bridge http://guitarfetish.com/assets/images/B40.jpg Also, Thanks Rob for showing me that site, I been thinking of doing a custom Strat build and that site has nice prices for bodies.

No problem, I have ordered $500ish worth of parts for various projects and customers work from them. They have always been great to me. Did you see the wraparound bridge that has adjustable saddles? that was the one I was refering to. Also some of their pickups are great. I have th fat pat in an LP clone and I like it better than the old Dimarzio super distortion that was in it. I have their Lil' puncher hot lead tele set and they are pretty good also. The VEH is a good pickup also.

Yeah I seen the wraparound bridge with adjustable saddles but I'd rather just get a fixed one because this guitar is just going to be in standard tuning. My other SG is usually in C or some other random drop tuning. Maybe on my strat build in the future I'll mess around with different pickups.

Update: Got some parts in the mail yesterday (Wraparound Bridge, Pickup, knobs). Decided that I'll go all the way and replace the tuners since those are the only things left so I ordered some off Guitar Fetish. I'm waiting for my pots to come in then I'll be all set, I'll update with pics after work.

Another update: Got new tuners in the mail from Guitar Fetish so I installed them and my pickup, waiting for pots and 1/4 input to come in the mail still, then it will be done
![]() (Can an admin please change the title of this thread to "97 Epiphone G-310 Modifications" please) Tuners ![]() Before drilling to make holes bigger ![]() After drilling (Disregard the chips that came out during drilling, this guitar is going to be a beater so I don't care if it gets cosmetics messed up during the modding) ![]() New tuners installed along with strings ![]() Installing the new pickup, This was alittle bigger then the stock pickup this came with so I used a drill and shaved some of the cavity on the sides for it to fit and I drilled new holes. ![]() Pickup installed and I couldn't find screws for the P90 since the Gibson P90 didn't come with any and the ones I pulled out the guitar were stripped so I ordered cheap bass pickups for about $7 and used those screws, I'll probably use the left over for some Frankenstein build. ![]() With pickup, bridge and new strings installed ![]()
