Hey Guys, I just picked up a new bass from craigslist. Scored it nice and cheap! Anyways, I was simply looking for a backup bass for playing at church and as soon as i played it i thought to myself, this may just replace my main guitar!

Love it so far! I found it in the 2000 Ibanez catalog and there are a few specs listed there. I'm curious if there is anything i should look out for? Hows this bridge hold up? How are these pickups? They are ADX5 pickups. I am running EMG-X PJ setup in my main rig and haven't heard of these ADX5's before. Seems to play great! Intonation is spot on, little tiny frett buzz down low but nothing too annoying. Whats say you bass knowledge guru's???

Great bass and treat it well it will outlast you probably. My only advise is that if you live in a climate with variable humidity and temp changes (read Northern California), you may find yourself having to do setups a bit more often than other basses. The fret buzz is probably curable through a set up. I owned a SR800 and the necks are a bit finicky when it comes to climate changes.

Otherwise, the bass was great and I only sold it because I was upgrading to a better bass.

Well, played it at band practice today and love it. Its definately heavier than my 4-string Alvarez tho. Going to have to hit up the gym to play this regularly!! haha, it was a bit noisy tho, I will tear it down tonight and hit the electronics and pots with a bit of contact cleaner and lubricant. I'm thinking it just a bit dirty. The whole thing was filthy. Going to polish her up and show her some love! Love the way it plays, WAY different than a 4 string tho and i was less confident playing up high past the 12th frett. I kept hitting a friggn G instead of C kinda stuff, but just takes some practice!

From what I can gather, this bass was about 2300 guldens (old dutch money) new in 1991, Which I believe works out at about 1300-1500 usd.

It doesn't translate directly with the exchange rate like that, retail prices are different in different countries.

IIRC in the US the 800 series retailed between $800 and $1000. dark Mass would probably know for sure though.

From what i can tell it was in that $800-$1000 range as well but there is not a ton of information out there on it. I see there is 1 on guitar center used for around $330 dollars. I paid less than half of that so I think I made out. Hard to believe it didn't hold its value better.. Some do, some don't I reckon..

None, the less. I am really digging this bass. Played our set yesterday at church with it and it played great. (Didn't even make any fat finger mistakes) =)

IIRC Ibanez priced the SR885 for a MSRP of $1120 in the USA in 2000 which is $150 more than in 1995. Due to the Japanese Economic bubble bursting a few years earlier and tougher trading policies of mid-late 90's.
