Some of the Chinese fakes and imports are actually really good when it comes to compressors, assuming you're a decent solderer and you don't mind occassionally replacing a broken footswitch.

Cheap modulation pedals can be cool too, just avoid the distortion or amp simulation pedals.

I may have done a bad thing and started to build a pedalboard again.

This won't end well.

So many effects pedals that I would like to have are just single use one-off effects that I cant justify spending the money on. Examples would be the ehx baseballs and POG. Also, I can't afford any more practice time spent tweaking my settings...

My current pedal rig is

into

into

And I'm quite happy with it. If I decide to jump on this compressor train, then that will most likely be the next addition.

^^ LOL

^ Yeah same here. Except I use them enough to miss them if I don't have them, but hardly enough to justify them, either. That pretty much goes for most of my gear.

My pedalboard was built under the necessity of playing certain songs in two cover bands. Really bad logic to be sure. I need to go back and pare down to what I really use vs what is a bright shiny object that serves no purpose but to make odd Claypool like tones.

I don't know why some famous bassist or guitarist has yet to invent a pedal that does absolutely nothing. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Then they could put it in a most prominent position on their pedalboard, and tell a few interviewers that "This pedal is the absolute key to my sound, man! It is freakin' indispensable!" Then all of the lemmings would go out an buy it, and speak in reverent tones about how the "nothing" pedal completely revamped their sounds.

And if Joe or Jane Famous-type musician is reading this and decides to go for it; remember this: It was my idea, and I want 15% of the take!

Sounds like way better logic than mine:

"I want that and I don't know why!"

Ah, see this half sounds like the BBE Sonic Maximiser.

There are a lot more pedals that are just "stomp here to make your tone utterly awful for no good reason." They're always designed for people who want to 'cut through' the mix and forget it's a band, not a competition.

I'm taking the 'build' but literally - I've gone and ordered all of the bass and some guitar offerings from BYOC.

And still haven't gotten around to buying a soldering iron.
