Not that it hasn't been discussed, which pickups for my...
Ibanez rgt42fx
About to upgrade my pickups/bridge pickup for the first time ever and want to be directed the right way. I play a lot of Tool (Yea, I know I will never sound like Jones without pretty much having his equipment) Metallica, Deftones, Slayer, etc.. My peers suggest EMG's...I am skeptical though after doing some of my own research on them. Any info/input would be great. Flame away for the N00b questions also. ![]() |

EMG's wouldn't be a bad idea for those sorts of genres. The problem is that you'll have to replace your jack, your pots, your caps and find a place to put the battery along with replacing the pickups. That applies with getting active pickups in general if you're converting a passive guitar.

So I've read. Which, I am capable of. The install doesn't scare me..I understand that is likely why people have tried to turn me away form them To be honest I've been leaning towards.. http://www.seymourduncan.com/produc...h6_duncan_dist/ And for no other reason than great reviews. NO personal experience or input on these. |

SH-6's are very good too; they sound a lot like the 500T's in my Gibson.

I honestly can't recommend EMG's, they're the biggest tone-suckers out there imo. The SH-6, as mentioned, is a nice pup. maybe try a JB in the bridge, for the neck I'd say DiMarzio Liquifire or an Air Norton for versatility.
