Oh god. Apparently one of my group members rear ended the professor for the class over the weekend. Convinced the universe is just against me on this one.

Did the professor like it?

Oh...wait....you mean...never mind....

More seriously, have you regained your good humor yet? You're way too damn young, intelligent and rich to be that pissed off at the world.

The other night was just drunken venting. Got a few buddies going through this shit at the same time in different groups and we're pulling each other through it by laughing our asses off.

Danny:

I need some assistance, because you are the guitar man (everyone feel free to chime in).

I want a new guitar (congrats, you talked me into it )

I'm looking for something that is similar to an Ernie Ball Luke, or even a Sillhouette, but perhaps not quite as pricey. I'm going to make a thread but I was hoping that I could maybe get a list of lesser known folks that I might look into.

Sooo...

HSS/HSH, 25-25.5" scale Stratclone, High-quality.

Under $2000, or is your budget a bit lower?

Actives or passives? New or used?

My first instincts are Carvin, G&L, Godin & Fernandes, but there are lots more.

I'm looking used in the <800 region, though for something especially great I would go more. I've looked at a few Carvins, they are more expensive tha what I remembered... G&L is a thought, though maybe a bit too Stratty and not quite "different" enough.

I'll look into Fernandes and Godin, I've liked what Ive seen before.

The Godin Freeway would seem to be a good option.
http://www.godinguitars.com/godinfreewaysap.htm

Check ebay & Reverb for used Carvins. I see nice ones under $1000 all the damn time.

G&L Tribute Comanche would be a pretty good option- those z-coil pickups are a bit beefier than standard singlecoils.

In Fernandes, I'd look for a Retrorocket Elite (which has the Sustainer system) or the Retrorocket DG, which has the David Gilmour EMGs. There's also a higher end Revolver Classic which has the hotter pickups AND the Sustainer system, but you'd definitely have to go used for one of those.

The Freeway is nice... So what's the deal with Velocities, are they just a lower end model or... They look nice but they seem pretty cheap

Yeah the Retrorockets are nice too, I'm leaning more towards the styling a of the Godins though...

The Velocities are cheap because they're used- they were discontinued in 2011. They're nice though- one of Godin's shredder guitars. They were replaced by the Redlines.

Velocities typically run between $400-550, depending on condition.

Just checked my eBay watched list: there are Velocities ranging from $300-775 right now. The pricier ones seem to be NOS- new, they sold for $850-900.

Also noticed they have a few Blade Levinsons in the sub-$1000. The ones under $550 are newer and less well made than the higher end ones.

One of my in-laws gigs with an old Fender with Levinson pickups. That thing is sweet.

As a cost-saving measure, the modern Blade California and Texas series are made in Korea- like many guitars- and inspected/finished in Switzerland. They should still be quite good.

eBay has some of the Korean/Swiss ones, here are some of the Japanese/Swiss ones on Reverb:
