Unhappy Vox AC-30 Amp gain not working.

So I bought a used Vox AC30CC2 amp without playing it (regrettably). After tweaking everything possible, I've realized the gain isn't working properly. I play in the Top Boost channel with Top Boost Volume all the way up and the sound still comes out clean. Any suggestions?

Does the knob feel different when you turn it?

The knob itself, no. There's a very minor difference when the volume is low to when it is all the way up. The overdrive just sort of peeks in when the volume is full, but it's practically unnoticeable and it's nothing compared to the gain of most AC-30s.

Have you checked the tubes?

Could need new tubes, but make sure it isn't the guitar or the cable.

Try cleaning the gain pot - use contact cleaner. A small amount of dirt in there could affect the connection which would result in no/limited operation and functionality.

After doing a bit of research, all the signs point to the problem of the preamp tubes. I'm not sure why I didn't think of it right away, but I guess it's because I've never had any tube problems before. I just took out the preamp tubes and one of them looks like it's definitely dead. I'll get them replaced tomorrow. Thanks for all the suggestions, guys!
