You might also dig some Robert Johnson, TS. He's the blues guitarist who supposedly sold his soul to the devil at The Crossroads: Me and the Devil Blues. Hellhound on My Trail. Crossroads.

I highly recommend The Pine Box Boys. Especially their older stuff. Most of their songs are about murder, heartbreak, and more murder.

Neil Young is not country, but I've always felt he has some similarities to it, and can be relatively dark for the genre he is in.

you know what I mean -_- That's just what it seems like to me. I like the elements of country music, but I just can't bring myself to listen to the stuff on the radio. These are all really good suggestions.

Well first of all, "Hurt" is a ****ing Nine Inch Nails cover.
Anyways, I'm pretty sure the Bring Me Your Love album by City and Colour might be down your alley.

Haha if you like dark country, you should check this band form NZ called The Dark Country.
HAHAH they're actually a country band, and they are absolutely terrifying. I've seen them live twice, and both times was craaaaaaaaazzzzzzzzyyyyyyyyy. Look em up. seriously.

I don't see why people dislike country so heavily.
Songs like. The Weight The Devil Went Down To Georgia Free Falling Landslide Lodi Fortunate Son and a lot of other ones are fine. |

I may be stupid, but I always connect country to rednecks and hillbilly's. Thus making me think of The Showdown.
Aaaand of Disciple of course. Both somewhat related to Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster, who were already mentioned. |
