NRD!!! (new rack) suggestions?
So today i pulled the trigger on a rack setup. I got a Furman RP-8 power conditioner and a BBE 882i Sonic Maximzer, as well as a small 3 space rack. I snagged all of this for a total of $100 flat
Pretty awesome deal considering the 882i goes for $250 alone at GC and ZZounds. This makes my rig sound insanely better, really beefs things up and adds a ton of clarity.BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer = $40 Furman RP-8 = $30 3 space rack = $30 Im pretty stoked about this and i set it up as soon as i got home. Let me know what you think guys, as well as any tips/suggestions since its my first rack. I got one more space, what should i put in it? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

The two most stereotypical units in any rack.
![]() A few questions otherwise we'd be pissing in the wind. What amp are you using? What are you playing? How much do you want to spend? Do you have a MIDI foot controller? Nice score btw. ![]()

Thanks, I'm running the setup in the pics posted above. MIJ Jackson Kelly through a Randall G3 150 watt head/Behringer 4x12. I have no MIDI, but i don't really see my self using one
as i dont use effects. I am pretty broke as of right now cause of school, just looking for suggestions on what to get in the future to fill the space in my rackEdit: I mainly play death/thrash metal, and i gig frequently

Or you could get what Kirk Hammet used on RTL - an old ADA MP1. Get the ENGL

Yeah, a rack tuner. Ditch the BBE. ENGL preamp and a good rack tuner (I use a Korg DT-1Pro, myself). I've never bothered with a power conditioner but they are probably a good idea. I always found it amusing that people would run their expensive amps for years without one but as soon as they buy a rack they think they desperately need one.

That Mp1 sounds pretty good on the youtube vids that i saw, I would love to get an ENGL but they are a bit expensive. Any thoughts on the old Rocktron preamps? as well as the ART preamps? ive seen a few on craigslist pretty cheap.

The ART's were a bit of an "also ran" thing. Haven't had a lot to do with them tbh but I do remember them.
I've got one of their Multiverbs in my keyboards rack and it's pretty meh, especially when compared to the competition. I have a quadraverb in my guitar rack which is from the same era and it totally slays the ART. The ART is ok but it aint no Quaddy. Their preamps were sorta the same. OK and perfectly functional but a bit meh.

A rack tuner?
![]() Ditch the BBE. +1 on the ENGL E530. Or Mesa TriAxis, but that's up in the air. Eventide Eclipse or TCE GMajor2. |

Rack tuners are great. You can see them from anywhere on the stage. I leave mine permanently on so I can tune mid note.
Once you go rack you can't go back.

I think i might just pick up a rack tuner for now since they are pretty cheap, later on i'll upgrade to a bigger rack and get a good preamp/poweramp
