Ska BOTM (February):The Scofflaws
Seeing as this has been pretty dormant, time to spice it up with a little something different.
"The Scofflaws are a New York-based third wave ska band that debuted in the early 90s. Known for their rambunctious live shows, technically proficient horn solos and tight arrangements, The Scofflaws were one of the top 3rd wave ska acts of the early 90's and one of the most beloved bands on the now-defunct Moon Ska label. The Scofflaws early sound was characterized by strong R&B and jazz influences as well as eclectic covers of such songs as Henry Mancini's "A Shot in the Dark", Danny Elfman's theme from "Pee Wee's Big Adventure", and a scorching live rendition of The Skatalites instrumental "Ska La Parisian". Despite the limited vocal abilities of the various band members who shared the singing duties, The Scofflaws had numerous cult favorite songs due to the offbeat lyrics and quirky vocal stylings of Richard "Sammy" Brooks and Buford O'Sullivan on tunes such as "Ska-La-Carte", "Nude Beach" and "William Shatner". Although The Scofflaws have not released a studio recording since 1998, they continue to perform live gigs in the New York City area and are still fondly remembered by many ska fans as a driving force in establishing the U.S. ska scene in the 90's." --http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Scofflaws Influences: Bob Marley, The Skatalites, The Specials, The English Beat, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis Links: http://www.myspace.com/thescofflaws ![]()

"William Shatner" is such an epic tune. I'm sure a lot of people here will like them since they don't sound like a typical third wave band. good choice.

Fun band.
Nice tunes. Nice to see one of 'em plays soprano. Kenny G can't have all the fun.

"Man with the golden Arms" sounds at the beginning like the Intro of "walking by myself", but when you continue listening itīs much better

I've seen them at Best Buy. But I got mine for about $3 from Empire Discs, a local music shop which recently closed down.
