buying first acoustic

I'm in the market for my first acoustic guitar, I have been playing lead guitar on electric for about 7 years but have never owned an acoustic so I think it's about time I branched out a bit.

I'm going to be honest I don't really know what to look for on acoustic guitars but I know I want a cut away, electro acoustic would be a plus point and I'm looking time spend about 400.

any suggestions please guys...?

Is there a used market where you live? I've seen used Taylor 114ce's go for around your budget. If you want a new guitar look into the Breedlove Passport plus. Both have the features you are looking for

i've played Lunas twice at music stores. my opinion in a nutshell? ..... crap! pretty crap but crap nonetheless. some makers sell their wares on looks alone, no different than the electrics that you probably know so much about( i'm ignorant on most electrics) makers like Dean( great electrics but acoustics.... not so much) and Luna sell on style not actual content. with acoustics, you can look good playing guitar or sound good playing guitar at your price level.
for that kinda money($641) here in the US, you can get a great yamaha or seagull electric acoustic. last week in San Diego i tried some of Yamahas A series guitars and was very impressed with the sound quality for the money. probably gonna pick up an AC3M myself i was that impressed. the AC1M was $599US. within your budget and comes with a good hardshell case.

thanks for that input, there isn't a lot on line to go on. It was the looks that caught my eye initially but obviously the sound is the key factor. suppose its down to the good old go play a shed load and see what feels right

yep. no amount of outside input will supplant just going out and trying them all out. I live in an area with no good shops around so i have to look online to whittle the choices down a bit then drive a few hours just to try them out. I got lucky last week and had to go to California for an awards ceremony... seems to be an equal amount of music shops and 7-11's over on the left coast( i'm still so envious of you for that patticake).

With the cutaway, price and the acoustic electric specs, have a look at some LAG guitars. I have the T100 ACE model and I am mainly an acoustic player. It should come with elixir custom light strings and has low action with minimal buzz.
If you can get your hands on one give it a play, I like the sustain mine and would definitely recommend based on your wants.

Just to give you some ideas:

Epiphone AJ220SCE VS (solid sitka spruce top, cutaway, shadow EQ). It's like 200 but it sounds like a 400-500.

Yamaha FG730. Yamaha's will always do the job. This one costs 255.

Ibanez V205SECE-VS. Price: 258.

Walden D550CE G. Price: 331.

Ahh, i remember when i got my first acoustic guitar and it's crucial that you make the good choice. I would recommend those:
Seagull S6
Yamaha FG-730S
Epiphone Masterbilt EF-500 series
Parkwood PW320M
Martin 000X1
They all fall into your price range and are all very decent.
