I have no filter, hasn't helped me with relationships.

I could never turn down a gift though. Unless it was given with the specific premise that it be returned if there is a problem, like clothes that don't fit.

I think we can all agree that it is not the best sounding amp in it's price range, for it's target audience. At the very least, there's the Peavey Vypyr and the Fender Mustang. You can even throw the Vox VT on that list, though I don't think they're amazing.

With those alternatives, why would you ever trump up an MG? They're all the same exact price - give the MG any positive light at all gives manufacturers justification to continue to make inferior products. We can be very harsh critics here - and I think being very harsh and very honest is a very good thing. I've been here a little while, and I know for a fact we have driven a very decent number of people away from Spiders and MGs to Vypyrs. I know for a fact that the grapevine exists, we've given the Vypyr a more positive light in the past few years (or at least, given the Spider a more negative light).

That's a great thing. The more people we can push to a superior product (remember, there is no financial advantage here at all), that will force the other manufacturers to up their ante, and everyone wins in the end.

That's why the MG sucks and you shouldn't buy one.

I know a lot of the other regulars are more pacifist, but I'm not on board for this "MGs are okay" bullshit.

+1

if it's a gift that's different and that's fair enough... but at the same time lots of people lurk forums without ever posting. So letting them know the mg is mediocre isn't a bad thing, imo.

Wtf.... They want almost 400 for one new in Canada around here. That's ridiculous given what a Valvetronix, Vypyr or Mustang go for.

You can get a Fender Super Champ XD for cheaper.

The MG is overpriced for what you get. Crappy cleans, and a distortion channel that can only get a decent tone if you cut out the mid and avoid adding bass. Otherwise I find it sounds like mud.

However if you got is as a gift you might as well use it for the distortion.
