nice, id like to catch karnivool. I only have one album, sound awake, and its really badass. its really addicting too. monuments are pretty sick live. they were tight as a bitch when they opened for DTB.

and yeah stig that looks really good! I also commented in that thread. you work quickly! often times you see people do little bits here and there on their builds. good job man

Aw shit I'd live to see Monuments again. Super awesome show opening for Scale the Summit. They should have been higher up in the setlist. And Karnivool! I love Themata and Sound Awake. They are due for another states tour. It's been too long.

Thanks guys. I'm definitely more inclined to play on it now that it's more to my liking aesthetically and tonally. I'll get a small demo recorded or something soon. I have school and work all week though.

If you wanna hear the VH though I posted a video in the "Original Recordings" subforum for Ryan Bruce's #RiffsAndBeards2 contest. Lemme know what you think :P

So if you're writing music that is less melodic, it's because you're making space for more interesting rhythms(eg, Meshuggah) or more interesting harmony (eg, Eric Whitacre).

Currently your track has a few little interesting syncopations that's really all it brings to the table. Perhaps you could add an ambient track to fill out the harmony or mix up the rhythms a little more? Maybe even just come up with a lead melody to go over the main riff?

Hope that helps, thanks for taking the criticism in the spirit it was meant.

The tracks not complete yet. I sort of built up from beginning to end, starting which a very typical metal style riff, and changing things around. The big just after the end of this track has a heavy rhythm with an 8th note pattern over it which in places is playing a typical melody over rhythm thing, but in places the basic palm muted pedal point riff changes to a different 8th note pattern/term picking pattern which harmonizes with the melody. Its taking me a bit of time to learn well enough to play precisely though

so I was googling amps and searched for EVH 5150 IIIs which several folks have said are really good amps. found one on one site for like $1799 and another on another site for like $849 that said factory resealed. any idea what that means and if it can be trusted?

$1799 sounds like a new 100 watt. IIRC, the 100 watt has no resonance control or MIDI, but has three separate sets of EQ controls, including three presence knobs.

$849 sounds like a used/b-stock 50 watt. Channels 1 and 2 (clean/crunch) share Volume/Gain/EQ. Only has one Master Presence knob. Resonance control on the back. MIDI.

Factory resealed sounds like a product that was returned but was in perfect condition. Someone didn't really dig it for whatever reason.

yeah you're right, the cheaper one was the 50w. that's a hell of a price diff for 50w! or maybe its not and im just not used to what amps actually cost

ALSO, someone in here suggested I look at celestion creamback speakers since I found my current ones a little harsh. was this the g12h-75 or the g12m-65? I busted one of my speakers in my 2x12 so I need a new one sooner rather than later.

Finally got a guitar but it only has six strings so no ERG for awhile. No need to go digital for now so I think Imma just get a cheap vypyr and actually save up for a nice rig. Won't be for awhile so I can keep an eye on any new lunchbox <20 watt heads that come out. So far either the bugera g5 with some nice pedals to boost the gain or the 6505 mini I was talking about.

But to be on topic, does anyone here have any experience with the digitech drop tune pedal?
show
Obviously it wouldn't be as good actually having a 7/8 string but with a nice rig it still sounds pretty good to me and I wouldn't mind spending the money on it even if I never even recorded with it. Seems like it would scratch my low tune itch while I save money for nice gear for my not so low tuning needs.
