The footage, featuring Capaldi and his companion Clara Oswald, played by Jenna Coleman, is in black and white with special effects missing.

Yeah, the leaked episode is alright. I've now read the script and seen the episode and I still think Moffat physically cannot write a coherent script. He focuses so much on shit that doesn't matter, and ignores so much of the essential groundwork of storytelling, it's baffling. Having said that, Capaldi is really interesting, and there's some fantastic moments. Definitely has me keen to see more of Capaldi at the least.

Rumor is that Jenna Coleman is leaving the show after the Christmas episode.

Good. Maybe they'll introduce a new character that's actually, yknow, a character.

I didn't think she'd last long with Capaldi.

Wall o' text ramble thoughts on Clara based on watching the leaked stuff/reading the scripts. No spoilers, but just in case.

tl; dr
I can totally see her leaving, but I think she's got potential to become a real character. Wish the next companion would be from the future, or an alien, or something different. 21st century Earth girl has kinda run it's course. Capaldi needs another alien to bounce off.

I'm pumped for Capaldi. Suspicious of Moffat.

They should bring Captain Jack back as a companion because he was great.

I've never liked the way characters in revived Who were written. It's weird, no one seems like an actual person in it to me apart from maybe Wilfred and Donna and Jack (who were brilliant). They all just seem like spunky plot devices intended to just spew out witty one liners whenever appropriate or give a moral speech at the right time.

I enjoy Martha and Donna a lot, but going back and rewatching season 3, probably Martha's strongest moment is when she decides to leave the Doctor because of the unrequited love thing, and just typing that sentence out in a Doctor Who thread kinda sums up her problem anyway, haha.

Hated Martha beyond words. She existed purely to weaken The Doctor's position.

And the fact that you've just called Jack believable makes me believe exactly none of what you've just said. Wilfred was brilliantly acted and believable. Donna thereabouts. Rose Tyler was much more believable then given credit for or the show would never have persisted. She was suitably dumbstruck, constantly got annoyed with The Doctor and acted like a balshy Cockney. Perfect if you ask me.

But Jack? That's just ridiculous. I was glad to see the back of him. He suited Torchwood much better because the rules were relaxed around him. In Doctor Who he simply makes every problem fixable.

Massive radiation? Jack. Sun going supernova? Send in Jack. Dalek army? Give Jack about 2 years, he'll get there eventually.

Jack is like that from a plot point given his immortality but he's actually an interesting character. He's got an interesting past, is funny and witty and is the perfect foil to the Doctor. I'm bored of 21st Century women with soap opera drama. Jack is something different.

Remember up until the first time he died, he wasn't actually immortal. That was his first tenure and where he became a fan favourite. The immortality came after the S01 finale.

Which is the point at which he became too big a character to share screen time with The Doctor. Now we have a potato with a love of guns. Much better.

Yeah, I love me some Captain Jack, but he's about as "realistic" as a cartoon sketch of himself. He got some really good character development in Torchwood, and by the end of season 4, I'd say he's a much more "real" character, but his appearances in DW and the first two seasons of TW, he's a stereotypical comic book character brought to life.
