bullshit. i owned the head with a mesa cab and i could be happy with "TV" volumes. the OD and EQ do a lot. however, as spambot said generally the louder the better to a point.

that was a long time ago though.

I'm not sure if it's either. I used to think it was the normal channel, but then someone said it was a different circuit.

I dunno I don't think it's the high gain channel, anyway.

Ok I am thinking of getting a guitar with a floyd and because I will occasionally have to change to drop D tuning (maybe for like 2 songs) I am thinking of getting a tremol-no. Will this allow me to do this easily and, is it really recommended?

sort of, and maybe

if you block the trem (or set it to "dive only") using the tremol-no you'll be able to retune to drop D much more easily than if the trem weren't blocked. however, you'll still have to unlock the locking nut to retune, and you'll also have to keep the trem in blocked or dive-only mode for as long as you're in drop D.

i also found the tremol-no a bit fiddly. that might be user error on my part. but yeah.

not really a question but I just want to say that taking my guitar to a luthier was the best choice I ever made. Way better than me doing it myself 10/10 would do again.

If you have a cheap guitar to work on (ergo not your main or most valuable one) to learn to set up it's pretty rewarding though. Only work I'd need to take a guitar in for at this point would be a refretting

Does anyone know if you can pay cash at Guitar Center and have something (that isn't in stock) shipped to the store? I'm thinking about buying something but my CC has a daily limit that is too low.

Yes, you can. You can call the request in if you want to save a trip to the store.

How do Jaws get the sort of 'jangly' guitar sound that they have in the song Be Slowly? Like it seems a very obvious 80s indie influence (The Cure in particular), but I'm not sure of what goes into this sort of tone effects-wise. Any tips? Song, assuming you haven't heard it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XeSGOjp9oc).

Thanks!

I need input on a MIAB. Was going to go with a Distortron but I found the Ramble FX Marvel Drive. Both sound sweet and have that JTM vibe going for them. Anybody have experience with either that can sway me to either direction?

Looking to get a pedal as a boost pedal.
Considering between a fuzz, overdrive, distortion or just a plain boost
If I got a fuzz/overdrive/distortion pedal, I'd turn down the gain and just use the volume on it
But I could do that with a boost pedal.
So what should I be looking at getting?

^ what type of tone(s) are you after?

what's your current gear?

do you need other tones like fuzz etc. as well (or would they be handy to have)? or is the boost thing the main/only priority?

you want a jtm vibe, right? I'm assuming you do from what you said, just there are a variety of different MIAB type circuits aimed at different types of marshalls.

i have no experience with the JTM type ones... either pedals or amps

I know, hence my problem. I can try the Distortron in person so I'll probably end up going with that. The Marvel drive is around the same price though and it sounds wicked (in YT videos ) but I probably don't want to risk it. I doubt I'd find anybody who would want one locally in case I don't jive with the Marvel.

yeah that's a tough one, i'm never sure which way to go either when there's something I've tried which i quite liked, but where I sort of suspect I might like something I can't try better. i suppose the safe choice is if you like the one you can try, to get it but

+3.1415 you gptta do as much research and listening to a variety of clips through good amps that are mic'd on youtube.

if you buy used and are patient for it, odds are if you get a good deal on one second hand, you won't lose any money on the sale if you don't like it. i am patient with my pedals, and if it doesn't seem re-sellable i don't buy it. i have a very solid track of making out ahead. but if you are buying on an impulse you can lose money.

only you know what you like is to try it out. which in EVERY case for me no shops have them i buy blindly.

^ I should also say that, although that's maybe the safer choice, I've also taken a chance and bought blind the thing I thought I'd like better, and actually was often happier when I did that.

I guess it depends how much you're used to guitar and how good you are at reading/listening between the lines to youtube videos and the like. Once you sort of get used to doing online research you can actually tell quite a bit from product demos etc. Nowhere near as good as trying the thing yourself, of course. But still better than nothing.
