Better (though more expensive) option with MIDI in/out.

http://www.musicomlab.com/efxmkiii+.htm

Has two sets of 4 loops, can assign either one to go in front or in the loop. You can also add expansion MIDI loops if you need more. And it has two TRS function outs, as well as a tuner out and some other functions that the Carl Martin has. Super easy to program too, and you can change it so that you can switch pedals individually like a normal TB looper if you want. Love mine.

i don't know a lot about midi, but i will probably read up one of these days.

either way, its what i will do if i ever get a bigger board.

dannyalcatraz (IIRC) has an ocatswitch and he mentioned liking it before, i hadn't seen one before.

first off, a midi setup can be really expensive just on the infrastructure to get it going, not just the actual effects.

secondly, i tend to like to weak and buy stuff from now and again, like a pedal, and contantly swap them out.

i built up my board 1 at a time from better and better effects every purchase, and i can't think of 1 unit that gives me all the specific tones i want.

what if that unit breaks??????

i would really enjoy a high end system, wouldnt we all? but im not going to pay for it. pedals will work just fine.

What if it breaks? Buy something good and it's unlikely to break really. I have been using the same rack units since the 80's and they haven't missed a beat. Well, I've had to repair the cable that goes between the foot controller and the GP-8 but that's no big deal really, neither of the actual units themselves have ever let me down. It was a pita cable to fix but it wasn't too bad.
Here's another advantage that was a big factor in me giving up on pedals. It's a lot harder to steal a rack than a pedal and I've had several pedals stolen at gigs. You can't just throw a rack into your pocket when nobody is looking.
