It all depends on what you call tech death, I know you're talking about the bleedidy bloop sweapzorz bands, but I've heard bands like Demilich and Gorguts referred to as tech death when they're more just weird progressive death metal.

Maybe people shouldn't use 'tech' as a genre qualifier as it's completely meaningless.

I would call Demilich and Gorguts death metal. 'Tech' is unneccesary and irrelevant.

its a good way to describe bands, but i'll agree, in the case of those bands, its not an adequate description, as they go above and beyond the genre's limits

i have no problem calling Necrophagist, Spawn of Possession, Psycroptic, etc. tech death though

They're a pretty cool kinda weird old school Finnish Death Metal (with some Grind elements) band, not as weird as Demilich or Demigod, but pretty interesting stuff.

I definately am more intrigued and interested in older DM bands. The vast majority of modern DM bands I have heard all sound extremely similar. I dont even want to get started on todays Brutal Death Metal bands. However there are some exceptional bands to come around in the past few years.

Yeah, there are certainly a few good modern brutal death metal bands, but most of them just sound like they're trying too hard and end up not being brutal at all.

oh yeah, Lykathea Aflame are great too

and modern brutal death just doesn't appeal to me, it just can't compare with old school BDM like Suffocation, Vomitory, CC, etc.

i think we had this coversation in the BDM thread already messiah lol
the production of modern BDM is just too processed, it tries to sound brutal but the polished production makes it sound so lifeless, lacking the raw brutaltiy of the older bands

Severed Savior are great, haven't heard Gorgasm.

EDIT: Yeah, we did, Diminished. Then King and Psychopathology got into a huge fight that spanned the CC thread, the Guttural Secrete thread and the BDM thread.
