Whirlpool by Chapterhouse is seriously becoming one of my favorite shoegaze albums

Of the "big four" (that is, Chapterhouse, Slowdive, Ride and MBV), Chapterhouse are probably my least favourite. I should probably give them a bit more a listen to be honest.

I've been trying to buy more shoegaze vinyl, it just sounds so much better. I was looking at getting my girlfriend an original pressing of Souvlaki for Christmas and they were going for £100 on Discogs, absolutely ridiculous. I did manage to get an OP of Loveless from eBay for £20 though.

I also finally got around to listening to Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space, and it's amazing

Give Whirlpool a shot man, it's great. I haven't gotten around to any of their EPs though

have you heard any other Spiritualized albums? because they are all really great. Ladies and Gents and Pure Phase float in (and out) of my top 25 albums off all time pretty often.

SWEET! This thread is back!

I don't mind Ride and Chapterhouse, but I never really cared for either of them (not Lush, actually). I much prefer more ambient-leaning shoegaze to strummier, poppier shoegaze.

M83, Lovesliescrushing, and Slowdive's Pygmalion are probably the most played items under the shoegaze tag on my ipod.

Anyone listen to the new APTBS's new EP, Onwards to the Wall? It's def on par with their usual standard of excellency.

EDIT: Ignore the awkward grammar.

Onwards To The Wall is seriously good. The whole EP just sounds so ominous, and "I Lost You" is the best song imo.

One of the few albums I'm ALWAYS in the mood for. The first 2 tracks especially are just instant good vibes.

Any Gravenhurst fans in here? They're usually described as 'folkgaze'. Not sure how accurate that description is, but they have some awesome songs. I started a thread on them a couple of years back but didn't get a single reply

For one just getting into Shoegaze, which albums would be best to listen to?

Slowdive - Souvlaki is the ultimate 'getting into shoegaze' album IMO, although 'Blue Day' is my favourite by them. Check em both out. Both My Bloody Valentine albums are great too. Past that I don't really know what to recommend, I'm still just getting into it myself.

Proto-shoegaze:
The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy (essential)
The Cocteau Twins - Treasure

Classics:
My Bloody Valentine - Isn't Anything (defined the genre, but Loveless perfected it)
Ride - Nowhere
Chapterhouse - Whirlpool
Lush - Spooky
Slowdive - Souvlaki

Nügaze (lul):
A Place to Bury Strangers - A Place to Bury Strangers
Ringo Deathstarr - Colour Trip

I don't really care for The Cocteau Twins and Lush compared to the rest of the albums I listed, but they're always cited as being really important or whatever.
