The idea is that you drag your middle finger slightly behind the rest of the hand so it mutes the string just after the one you're playing.

I wouldn't worry about it too much though, it's hard as fuck and takes the 'belt-and-braces' approach to an extreme. If you can do it then cool but if not, it's cool; using other parts of your body (like your other hand) to mute those strings is fine.

Depends how your mind works. Personally I'm find with learning whatever bits of a song I want to learn and forgetting the rest, whereas some people really don't think you've done anything right until you can play the whole song pitch-perfect.

As long as you end up learning what you want to learn then does it really matter which way you do it?
