Nothing, i just use my amp's vintage tones to get me that swamp rock tone
But heres what i would use if i wanted effects and such: 1. Wah 2. Tremolo 3. Delay (for solos) 4. Noise Reduction (probably the ISP Decimator) 5. EQ

Wahwah (Vox Big Bad Wah is looking nice at the minute)
EQ (MXR 10 Band) Fuzz (Way Huge Fat Sandwich) Reverb (Digitech Hardwire) Modulation (Damage Control Glass Nexus) That'd be my ideal pedalboard on a non-reverb amp such as a good JCM800.

What do you know. 40+ responses and 40+ different top 5 must have pedals. In case you havent noticed, its totally depended on what you are doing, your gear, etc. In my case, I have a valveking 112 which really lacks on the gain channel and can be fizzy, so I HAVE to have an EQ pedal to clean it up along with an OD pedal. On the other hand, if I had a Mark V I'm pretty sure I wouldnt even bother touching an OD or Distortion pedal and probably not even an EQ pedal.

1) tuner 2) Wah 3) OD (depends on the amp ofcourse) 4) EQ 5) .. nothing now but maybe delay or phasor?

as a metal player, all i need is my boost/OD, EQ, and delay. chorus and reverb for cleans i guess, and occasionally ill mix things up with some other modulation effects. i like wah, but im not good at making wah leads so its not very necessary for me
