The MG rocks man, wayne static uses one! If it doesn't have enough gain for you then you can get a metalzone.

Vox AC15, but I think you would have to mic it up at the gigs.
Or a Traynor YCV50 Blue, but I doubt Guitar Center will have that in their used section. Guitar Center doesn't have a good variety of amps, is there a local music shop where you live? Other than guitar center?

I like how everyone at the beginning recommends it. Why'd people have to go and mess it up!?!

oh for gods sake...

have any of you people actually tried the new MG, at bedroom volume, let alone at gig volume? or did you just listen to the compressed, bit-crushed youtube demos and insist that it's no better because it's still an MG?

I think if marshall changed the name you lot would probably like it...

With that said, i haven't tried it at gig volume, so if you're planning on buying one for gigging make sure you get to play through one at volume, and if you can't get to crank one, based on the old version's "success" (at sounding bad), get something else.

AVOID MARSHALL MGs AT ALL COSTS!

if you want to buy a cheapish marshall, go for an AVT or old valvestate. MGs arent worth the parts theyre made from, made in asia with no quality control.

and im pretty sure, the first couple of posts in this thread were messing with you. under no stretch of the imagination does the overdrive 'deliver'.

he's talking about the new version of the MG. everything you've said refers to the old model. Given that MGs are basically the only amps on sale where i live i've seen a lot of the old ones, new ones, and got to compare them side by side, and all the shortcomings of the older MGs are gone in the new ones - no more "crushing" overdrive, no more plastic cleans, the build quality is greatly improved. the only thing they did wrong this time was increase the price, so they are still overpriced and you can certainly do a lot better for the money.

If they lowered the price by about $200, the amp would be a good practice amp, but it is just too expensive.

You are better off with a JCM 900 combo.

or they aren't.

at this point, were so sick of people asking about this amp that if your still ignorant enough to ask about it you might as well just buy it.

TS, i dont know how long you've been here so that may or may not apply to you.

seems as though you are unaware that there actually is a new model which is different to the ****ty older version. and if that guy thought the guitar sounded disappointing because it was a cruddy guitar and not because it was a solid state practice amp, he probably had no idea how to dial in a good tone to begin with, no matter what amp he would've used. I got a great sound with it when i used a Rickenbacker 330 through it, if you've ever listened to in the city by the Jam, you'll have an idea of what it sounded like. I was quite surprised. I figure if it can sound like that, instead of a piss poor imitation of it, i can't be a bad amp, even though that particular tone is nothing special and comes more from the Ric 330 itself..

just so you don't get the wrong idea, i'm not recommending this amp as a gigging amp, as i have not tried it at volume and as with most solid state amps in the price range it probably has a harsh, unpleasant nature at volume. If perhaps you were looking for a bedroom amp i would recommend the 30 watter... but in the price range for a gigging amp you'd be better off with a 30-50 watt tube combo, and you could get something so much better for the price if you go used, like the aforementioned JCM900.

^no

And if there was, I still wouldn't buy due to construction issues. I don't even think Marshall makes the MGs.
