Spiral Castle is a good starting point. Gets you used to the nasal voclas of Shelton very quickly. Then check out Mystification. But, seriously, all their albums are different and worth at least looking at, even the lackluster Circus Maximus. Also, never expect to remember a Manilla Road album right after you finish it. They are one of those bands that you can listen to an album over and over, and still not remember ****, and then you play them a month later and know every song. Strange. |

Aye, Manilla Road aren't really the definition of "catchy"
But there's something extremely captivating in their music EDIT: That said though, I haven't been able to get the chorus of Mystification's title track out of my head for ages

God damn i love me some Manilla Road. Even the new stuff is amazing, can't say theres many other bands with that type of consistently awesome releases.

Voyager shocked me with its quality. They've still got it.

Yeah, Voyager really surprised me when I heard it.
Shelton's more death-metally vocals (eg, chorus of Butchers in the Sea) were surprising to me.

There are some growls on Spiral Castle, but I think they were done by a different vocalist (?)

Hellroadie.
He's pretty decent at vocals. Shelton's gotten old, and he himself said he can't do vocals all the time anymore. |

Hellroadie gets too much flak from some of the longer-running fans (if that makes sense). He's a good vocalist, and not that bad a replacement for The Shark himself.

Anybody else here heard Mark of the Beast? A big departure from their signature sound, but a way underrated album from the MR catalog (even by the band themselves, obviously). It's probably one of the best psychedelic albums currently loaded in my itunes.

Mark Of The Beast was the unreleased second album from 1981, that's why it's pretty different and much closer to the style of Invasion
I personally really like it though, a bunch of great songs, especially Avatar and Triumvirate

Listening to Crystal Logic for the first time right now. Shelton's vocals are a bit odd, but I love his more "growly" parts like in Flaming Metal System. I can tell I'm going to like this band but I probably won't acquire the whole discography.

Except The Shark's vocals are strange. They took me a while to get used to, but they fit Manilla Road like a glove.
You're missing out, The Frayed Ends. |

I got, like, 7-ish albums. I'll listen to them all eventually I'm sure.
