Satan - Too late...there's no escape!

The NWOBHM was a legendary movement that arose in Britain in the late 70's. The scene took off in a blazing storm by the early 80's. Many bands rose and fell, and the face of metal was molded. Some bands (for better or worse) broke up after a short career, only leaving behind a couple of releases as a legacy. Satan, sadly, are one of those bands.

1983 saw the release of Satan's Court in the Act, often considered the monumental peak of all of the NWOBHM by many (myself included). The first time I heard it I couldn't believe its release date. For 1983, Court in the Act is incredibly technical, fast, over-the-top, and even at times aggressive. Words do not do the release justice, in any regard. The band's second release, Suspended Sentence, is somewhat similar to Sabbat's Mourning has Broken. The band saw some line-up changes and the release isn't worthy of legendary status like the previous, but there are some good moments.

Metal Archives

The obligatory Trial by Fire.

Fans of this band would do well by looking into Pariah and Blind Fury, which are essentially just post-Satan bands. There's plenty of gold to be found there as well.

Edit: I'd just like to mention right now that Blind Guardian's Trial by Fire is a cover of Satan's song, which for some reason people have trouble understanding.

Court In the Act is definitely my favorite album of the NWOBHM.

This song is amazing, some of the best NWOBHM there is. Thanks for sharing.

I'll check it out.
Their logo looks very familiar with something.

This band is so incredible. I showed them to one of my non-metal friends, and about halfway through Court in the Act he insisted we listen to it again.

I'm familiar with the BG cover, but have never really bothered looking up any of their stuff. I think it is time I pick this up.

Also pick up Blind Fury's Out of Reach. Almost as good, but daaaayyyuuuummmm Court in the Act is unbeatable.

Court in the Act is easily one of the best Heavy Metal albums ever released.

Court in the Act is amazing.

If you ever get a chance to see Blitzkrieg live, do it, they did a cover of Trial by Fire which is about the closest thing you'll get to seeing Satan do it.
