Question Double Neck Guitars....

I saw a 1000$ double neck at a guitar shop. It is really hard for me to save money to buy things like that, but i was thinking about buying one. It'll take me over a year to rack in that much. I'm only 13 years old, therfore can't get a real job like at a store. I do flyers and i get allowence and all that.

So on one note, any other ideas to get money?

And the real question i was wondering, What are the good and Bad things about double Neck guitars? try and provide as Much info as Possible Guys,

Thanks in Advance

Doubly hard to find a good one
Heavy and unwieldy
Not really all that useful

reasons not to get it:

1. double neck guitars are REALLY heavy
2. they are a bitch to tune
3. you need a masive case to carry it around
4. the are awkward to play

Good:You get another neck, and they look cool.
Bad: Heavy, Expensive, Hard To play, and when I played one and tried to play the 12 string neck and the six string neck started buzzing

there is a switch to select between the necks, so u can play with one off or both on or the other off

dont get one, ill make a short judgement based on ur age:
-u probably think its badass because ur still oung and stuff9no trying to offend) thought in the next years u might not want to play it/not like it
-if ur 13, u cant be pretty big so i get a feeling that the guitar will ridiculouse on u, and it ill probably brake ur back
-LLLLLLLLLOONNNNGGGG restringing/retuning times...imagining restringing 12-18 strings
-expensive, for 1000 u can get amazing guitars/amps like schecters balckjacks, bc rich nj's and bugeras and used peaveys

I'd probably get a double neck guitar just to have.

But If I were to get series with one I'd definitely have to replace the pickups, probably to some passive Duncans to save me some cash.

The benefits have been listed, and they are you have two guitars in one, but due to that, they are very heavy. Not many have a good sound, either.

Yeah, the pros and cons about them have pretty much been said, but why do you really want one anyways? Unless your gonna be gigging and don't want to be switching back and forth between guitars I really can't see the point of buying a doubleneck.

Not that its bad to own a doubleneck guitar, but if you want one just because its "cool" then your better off waiting a few years when you've got a job and more money to spend on stuff like that. Personally I dont see any reason why you'd need one at 13. Save your money for something else.

I own an Epi Sg doubleneck, it sounds great and it really is the most badass thing you can own(a doubleneck, not just an epi one). It's VERY heavy. But it doesn't hurt your back as much as your shoulder. Mine is 13 lbs.
BUT....
$1000 is ridiculous, I got mine for $350 and it sounds like a dream. GO TO EBAY.
Now to contradict what I just said...
TRY BEFORE YOU BUY.
The best way to avoid buzzing and bad playability is to try it first.

Do you have any use for a 12 string? The 1 song I know using a 12 string certainly isnt worth the cash to buy 1. At 13 it looks bad ass but you would find very little actual use for it. And there is the cost of keeping it strung up. The music store near me doesnt even carry strings for a 12. And its a bulky thing its case taking up alot of space. When I was 13 it would have taken me years to save up the cash to buy something like that by then I was buying a car.

Not really all that useful unless you're absolutely hell bent on looking badass playing a live rendition of stairway to heaven on a doubleneck. But playing a live rendition of stairway to heaven on a doubleneck is probably about as badass as one is ever going to get.

Considering most people find even just a 12-string uncomfortable and have little use for them, I really don't believe you'll have any use for a double neck.

I mean hell, I do use 12-strings and I do have a use for a double neck, but even then it's only for what, 3% of what I play - if that - and the cheap double necks sound like arse anyway.

A triple?? Right, cause a 13 year old kid really has that much room between his armpit and his fingers.....hahaha, nobody NEEDS a triple, it's just something to make you look more flashy...

In all seriousness tho, u r better off buying a new guitar or a better amp for the price, unless of course you already have +$1000 amp and guitars....in which case I hate you for your wealth >.<

The only time you should get a twelve string is if you have effeiciant acoustic experiance. Out of the 22 guitars in my house, 2 are twelve strings. Once sits in a case, and hasent been used in years(fender) the other is on a stand in our guitar room, and has been played less than the six strings. 12 strings are louder, sound better, and are more matinence than a 6 string. a 12-string hollowbody would be an iffy buy for me, so I'd probably never buy a 12 string electric, unless I had enough to get a great double neck, but It would be more for cosmetic purposes.
