I wish I lived in a country with wood...
On topic, this is looking...interesting. Seems more like a 6 string, electric banjo than a guitar, though.

But yours doesn't have a Bigbsy (or Bigsby style trem, I can't tell)... But I guess a stoptail goes better with the sign and the killswitch.

Yah, plus I couldn't fit a bigsby on there, barely 3/4" left after the hardtail.

True... How are the tonal properties of stop signs, anyway? They're made of aluminum, right?

Yep, aluminum + vinyl.
I have no idea whatsoever what the tonal properties are.

Lets see...aluminum is a pretty resonant metal, so sustain shouldn't be too bad. Something tells me that it should have a lot of treble as well, but I have nothing to back that up. I don't know about vinyl, it doesn't seem very resonant, though.

That's not a real stop sign is it? They're much bigger than that, I've got one on my wall.
EDIT: Not saying it won't be cool, I just can't tell if you're a giant or not.

What brand of guitar is that? I have a semi-hollow that has the same neck and same hardware. I gotta figure out the correct brand name for it. |

@Will, normal stop signs are 18", this one is 12"
@Jim, I can't remember, I believe I got the picture off of the guitarz blog though. Also, just cut the rough octagonal shape into the wood, sanding and routing will be done soon. Updates on Saturday methinks?

How are you going to bond the aluminum to the wood?
Looking neat so far. |

if the stop sign is one that you actually just take down from a sign, its gonna be a really really heavy guitar. those signs dont look to big but they would be massive as a guitar
edit: 12 inches is still kinda bulky, also the guitar will prolly be uncomfortable sitting down. Last edited by necroscience13 : 08-21-2009 at 02:15 AM. |

how did you cut the body?
You need to have the grain running parallel with the neck, and with the dimensions of that piece of wood it looks like you would have had to cut it so that the grain is 90 degrees to the neck... |

As far as attaching the sign goes, I'll be putting a screw in each of the 8 corners, so it will act sort of like one huge pickguard.
As far as the size goes, the width is a little bit over what a strat would be at it's widest point, length wise however, it is very small. Just by resting the body on my leg, yes, it is a bit uncomfortable, so I may consider doing a tummy cut on it.

I totally skipped over your post cam, sorry, its 4:30 and I can't fall asleep!
I did cut the body so the grain would be parallel to the neck, looks can be deceiving because the wood was *almost* enough room to cut two of the bodies. It wouldn't really have matter until i route the cavities anyway because the body is symmetrical horizontally and vertically (as well as diagonally)
