Bah, no time to strip down the Mesa tonight, so I'll keep this thread bumped until then with the Marshall.
1962 BB reissue (I think). Now that I think about it, I don't actually know what the hell this thing is. Any Marshall experts around? I've had it since I was younger, and it's just sort of hung around since then... Clearly some kind of re-issue bluesbreaker in a 2x12 combo, maybe a jtm45 type of circuit?! EDIT: durrr, now that I actually look at it, it says JMP44. WTF is that?! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

It's a JTM45 with a tube driven tremelo.

Shows how much I know about Marshalls, right?
![]() And yeah, I just cleaned it up a bit, it hasn't been out of it's chassis for years. I play it once every, um, I dunno? So what's up with JMP44 on the board? What's that mean? Anyway, this thing has been a prime candidate for some mods for a while now, any ideas? I've never swapped in a turret board for PCB, that's number one on the list, what else do these like? (please speak in Fender-ese, I don't speak brit... )

Dude... could you post a picture of the entire amp please... I was not even aware that wide bodied MkIVs existed.

I really only have 2 shots and they won't give you what you really want. Erock posted his in the Only Thread for Splawn Amplification. Rutch - I'd ask al112987, Roc8995, or maybe Gabel.

Actually, I was just trying to see if it was PCB or turret board and if it was PCB was it like Marshall type PCB or Soldano/Fuchs type PCB. Erock's pic cleared that up though. |

some will mod it to JTM45 spec and take out the tremelo channel and just have the normal/bright channel set up. but yeah, replace the pcb with turret board. unfortunately on the older BB reissues, there isn't enough space to go to KT66s, but 5881s do just fine in that amp. otherwise, a popular thing to do on the reissues is to replace the OT with something a little closer to vintage spec. if you want to move the amp itself into a different direction modding a JTM45 into something like a JTM50 or early 1986 model isn't too hard. Increase filtering, shared to split cathode, swap the tube rectifier for a SS plug in, switch to a 50 watter OT and run EL34s. Will give you more of that 50 watt plexi sound. Maybe in the next couple of days i'll open up my Mark IV to take pictures. Its needed some rewiring/soldering and the fuse has been changed. Should be interesting to compare to that other Mark IV... Even though it was a widebody.
I didn't even know they made widebody Mark IVs. 2x12?

wow figured theres be more Marshall gutshots in this thread, i`d love to see what a 800 or 900 looks like inside. not sure if i wanna start pulling my amp apart, $1000 dollar amp that i can`t replace HAHA
as for that mesa shot, thats really cool looking, but i see now why the amp builder i know hates mesa and calls them SS amps with tubes, get him talking bout mesa or randall and he goes off on this rant HAHA, it`s funny.. he HATES them with a passion, he`s a cool old guy who`s a hand wired purist, he wont even touch my Marshall ![]()

Thanks!!! Right now, it is having a few problems. I've been putting off working on it. My guitar teacher gave it to me for free. He is in his early 80's and doesn't use it anymore. It was originally a 4x10 combo. He is a very small guy and had a hard time carrying it. So he made it into just a head. Its a shame, but still coo.

I'll post some more pics of the mark IV later as I'm at work right now. Its a 1x12 combo. the only difference between the wide body and the short is that the graphic eq switch and the mid gain/harmonics switch is on the front instead of the back. I believe the short head is 17" long and the wide body is 22".
