Pre-amp for head?

sorry this sounds like a stupid question but would it be possible to use a pre-amp as a head?(or a micro amp)?
thanks :-)

No. A preamp doesn't amplify enough (or have the proper output impedance) to drive a speaker.

A few preamps will drive headphones or a cab.
The Engl 530 is one that has a headphone out, you might beabe to drive a cab, but I'm not sure

Yeah, the e530 puts out around 1,5w @ 4ohm IIRC, but that's a bit of an exception as the vast majorty of pre's aren't able to produce that much power.
