The Storm Picturesque

I search-bar'd, didn't find anything.

I saw this band live a couple of months back, supporting Parkway Drive and I thought they were awesome.
Their live presence was awesome, and the overall "heaviness" of their material is great in a room full of hardcore/metal fans. Obviously...

They're from Newcastle, Australia and they play something along the lines of Metal/core although in some parts, leaning towards that favourite genre "Deathcore" I only use this term because it's the easiest way to describe it. Everyone seems to know what it means.

While listening to some of their songs on YouTube, I figured "Okay, this is probably just another band that's just playing dissonant, breakdown-ridden stuff" (It was kind of hard to tell that they were doing anything other than this at the concert) but when I listened on, I found that some of the songs had powerful, melodic choruses, sometimes even with singing!

I figured there'd have to be some people on here who would appreciate this, so here you go:

The Storm Picturesque - So I Hear It's The End Of The World

The Storm Picturesque - In Oceans

EDIT: Found an acoustic song too!

The Storm Picturesque - A Promise of Things To Come: Revelations

I leave these at your discussion.

To address the whole "regulars flaming this thread" thing...

I don't want people, especially new people, to be afraid of posting bands, generic or not. I'm from the midwest and I joined this forum when I was 13. I'm into a lot of the music I'm into because of the hardcore forum and when I first joined I was ignorant as hell. Posting cultivates the community and no matter what you post, someone is going to like it. On the flip side, you have to understand there are probably going to be two positions on this deathcore stuff or whatever is trendy at the time; either people are going to dig the brutalness of it or the energy or whatever, or they're gonna flame because it's boring, unoriginal, generic, repetitive, etc. If you don't know that much about hardcore or deathcore, you probably won't understand this, but don't get all butthurt about it. Wade through the "**** this" comments and try to understand where people are coming from and maybe check out the hardcore recommendations thread to find out more about the genres you're interested in.

Be prepared to receive both opinions. Having said that, I think this band is pretty boring.

Don't worry, I'm well aware of opinions on this style of music. But I pretty much live by "Whatever floats your boat" I'll like what I like, you like what you like. As long as you don't criticise me for what I like, I won't do it to you.

Yeah, a lot of this Deathcore shit is really generic and boring but there is a couple of bands that really stick out from the rest of them. Sure, a lot of it's just breakdowns but the energy that these bands bring to the crowds is really something amazing.

You say this band is boring, and I understand that. This genre can be like that, in most cases it is actually. But to fans of this style of music, like me, I find this band to be something great.

I respect your opinions and yeah, I understand where the people who say "F*ck this" about this style are coming from. Having originally been like this myself. When I first started listening to this stuff I couldn't stand the vocals at all. But, it's definitely an acquired taste.

The beginning of "End of the World" is probably one of the most boring things I've heard in the genre. Then it did that 2/4 time thing, and It peaked my interest. Then it died off later.

I'm sure this band isn't terrible, but I've been listening to a lot of grind lately, so maybe everything below 250bpm just doesn't interest me atm

i can honestly say i give every band posted a chance before bashing, regardless of how they look or whatever. But bands like Attack Attack and the like deserve flaming, especially when they refer to themselves as "what hardcore is nowadays"

aside from that rather pointless rant, this band isn't anything special, but still decent

This band is woeful. Everyone should listen to White Male Dumbinance and Dropsaw if they want to know what current real hardcore from Newcastle sounds like... not this rockstar kiddymetal shit. Newcastle has (and has had) tonnes of fantastic bands, but this one hurts my ears and my brain and makes me feel ashamed to be from here.

I think this band is probably the best band doing this style in Sydney, that being said their "stage presence" and rockstar attitude turns me off them (I don't see why kids think getting really low is cool) and when I saw them live they were terrible. They have some cool parts but then ruin it with boring as hell breakdowns and blatantly obvious Architects worship.

I was also pretty pissed they got on the Shai Hulud show but they pull huge amounts of kids and will hopefully expose some kids with no clue to the almighty Shai Hulud. I would have loved it had The Hollow or Dropsaw or WMD been put on instead.

Yeah, the Architects worship is blatantly obvious, but it still sounds good.

And as for the breakdowns, the one at the end of their song "Destroyer" is amazing IMO.
That being said, I don't recall any of their others in my mind right now, so I suppose their breakdowns may very well be boring, I'll have to go and check again. :P

Really? When I saw them live, I thought they were awesome! This could have something to do with the fact that I didn't know who they were at the time. But besides that, I thought they were awesome!

I saw the name of the band and I was so like "I bet this is a generic metalcore band."

Looks like I guessed right. Not that metalcore can't be good, I just don't think these guys are that great.

Jesse, the singer of The Hollow is banned for life from The Cambridge, and WMD don't play many shows any more and half of the band lives in Sydney now anyway, but having Dropsaw on the show would have been siiiiick.

The breakdown at the end of destroyer is actually decent but when i asked them about botch worship they had no idea even though the down tuning mid song is borrowed from "hutton's great heat machine".

Matt/Moonman? I heard about Jesse being banned from Cambridge, what happened there?
