NGD, Rig overhaul! MGBC (Massive Gear Boner Content)

Well here's one that's sure not to disappoint.

What have we here?!

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/...pg?t=1271910440

Why that's right it's another person making you watch them open a package.

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/...pg?t=1271910442

Lookie here a Blackstar HT-Dual, What's that you say? "You're in Canada, how'd you manage to get that"

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/...pg?t=1271910447

Well My friends I got it by lurking Musician's Friend until a used one came up.

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/...pg?t=1271910449

One more for good measure.

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/...pg?t=1271910450

Review: Basically this is beyond what I expected. It's almost like adding two channels to an amp. Both of them are voiced quite nicely have a fairly nice range of tonal possibilities. Ever since buying my Rev Jr. I've had a fear of things not providing enough gain and I was quite worried about that with this one. However, it's not the case, for my needs the gain on tap that this thing has is quite ample. It might not please those going for the super br00t4l but it can get pretty nice brutal. The crunch is good and hearty and this thing cleans up quite well to (****ed up I know, who ever thought of putting a clean channel on a DISTORTION pedal).

One thing I did find was the ISF was really not as impressive as I though it would be in some instances. The biggest one being the clean portion of this pedal, I found you needed to have it to either extremes for it to make a noticeable difference.

All in all, glad I picked it up. Also, kudos to Musicians friend for excellent custromer service and speedy delivery time. I placed the order on last Friday and was not expecting it until mid next week, little did I expect one package today and one yesterday.

And there we go, that should give you folks what you were after ...

Alright, as promised, this should harden your metaphorical gear wang.

I GIVE YOU SPLAWN! A Quick Rod, to be exact.

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/...pg?t=1271910668

Not gonna lie, the first thing that caught my eye about this amp was the look, then the tone sealed the deal for me.

Review: This is a killer amp. Again after the bad experience with the Rev I was worried about amps not having enough gain. When I asked the guy who I purchased the amp would if he thought that this amp ever lacked gain he looked at me like I was ******ed, and he was right to do so. This amp has the perfect amount of gain for me and suits everything I'll ever play. For me it has the perfect balance of a vintage and modern tone.

I find the clean channel to be quite nice but you can also easily clean up the lower gain settings on the OD channel with a quick roll back on the volume knob. The EQ seems quite responsive, though I have not had ample time to tweak it yet but even just going through typical EQ settings I was able to hear the response easily.

The gears are really cool, them coupled with the OD1/OD2 setting and the solo boost make this overdrive channel really versatile. It can give great dirty blues and crunch sounds on the gear 1 (Plexi) setting and OD1 and it can get outright brutal when you go up to gear 3 (super hot rod JCM 800) on OD2. Everything in between sounds great to.

Also, I was hoping to have an even bigger new gear day that included the pups I got from MF but I just dropped them off at a shop along with my guitars to get it all installed. So, I might throw down a necro bump on this thread once I get those back, with pics of course.

Tasty. At first I saw the pedal and was like, wtf mate. But then I saw the Splawn, and all was good again.

Question though, what's the point of the pedal with an amp like this?

turn your bass down
solo boost will work best at 9 - 10 oclock
volume works best from 8:30 - 10:30
anything after that is more meat and bleeding

Splawn.. Splooge.. Coincidence? I don't think so.

And that thing is hardly a pedal. More like a preamp with stompbuttons on it.

The point of the pedal is, I bought it before I knew I was gonna get this amp, like a few days before. Initially it was a last ditch effort to make use of my Rev Jr. but now that I have this I don't need to worry about it though.

It is a nice little pedal though, I'll probably hang onto it for a bit. Might be quite easy to flip, being that their are still no Blackstar distributors in Canada.

Very true, original plan was to run some pedals directly into the power amp of my Krank. It was gonna be Maxxon OD808 -> Blackstar HT-Dual -> MXR 10 band -> Krank Power amp.

Then I found this Splawn and well wasn't about to pass up that opportunity.

I'll go join in on that thread for sure.

Still haven't really found my specific tone on it yet, only played it for about an hour or two yesterday but as far as I can tell there isn't reall one I dislike barring having the volume at 7 O'clock or less on any gain setting. I'm gonna try and set up something nice heavy with gear 3 OD2 today, see about working in my OD and EQ pedals if neccessary.

Yeah, I realized after the picture that my bass was really high, I was just testing out the EQ response prior to the pics.

I got a real shocker from the solo boost, the guy had it set at something like 2 O'clock when I tested it and when I turned it on it almost knocked me out of my chair.

Confrabulations my man.

I'm not too keen on the pedal, personally, but the amp sounds awesome (from clips and videos, at least).

All the best with it.

Nice splawn! I have the same quickrod - mines a more boring black with Marshall knobs though.
