The ONLY Writers' Thread

Clearly, we've got writers. The FlashFic competitions are getting at least 20 people a pop.

So, here's our home.

Discuss ongoing projects you have, or problems you're encountering, or stuff you plan to write, would like to write, or questions you have about techniques, styles, grammar, facts. Suggest collaborations and other projects, or ask for betas and proof-reads. Any work posted online? Share the link here!

I'm currently writer's blocked, but I'm working on an entry for the 4th Short Story Competition, the fourth installment to a long action/adventure type deal, as well as a shorter fan fiction thing, and I've been toying with a sort of spy-ish novel, but haven't been able to start.

www.gabcd86.livejournal.com is where it'll all end up at some point or another.

Writers of the world, unite!

Someone write a book about foxes...Please?

Also, I tend to use dashes (or hyphens?) a lot when I'm writing stuff for school (analytical essays or whatever). What is the difference between a dash and a hyphen (as the look similar), and how does one avoid overusing them?

I currently have ideas floating around in my head for about three or four novels, several short stories, and one TV screenplay, yet I can't bring myself to commit any of it to ink!

I'm currently working on the storyline for a manga-style series. My mate's a great artist so he'll draw it all.

I'll probably write a novel before I die but it's not exactly top of my priority list right now. Frankly I couldn't care less, it'd probably just end up being a blatant Steven King imitation anyway.

Well not quite...Instead of being the ONLY thread for writers, it's currently a thread for the ONLY writer!

Really? Just because writer is singular in the title doesn't necessarily mean that the only goes with it. It's like a "baker's dozen."

I've got a couple ideas for a few different poems at the moment, but they all basically sound the same. I think I've come to terms with the fact that I'm more of an emotional writer, i.e. I write from emotions, not from the five senses, sort of a Sylvia Plath type of style. Like I said, I have a few ideas, and if you really want to hear some of it just let me know and I'll post away.

I've been trying to write some stuff this year, need something to do so I've decided to take it up.

Mainly screenplays, well, I've never finished one but that's what I try to write.

Recently planned out another idea until I realise I was basically just rewriting Airheads for the year 2010.

That's true, but what I meant was that the placing of the apostrophe in writer's signifies that the thread 'belongs' to just one writer (i.e. the ONLY writer) rather than lots of writers

OK, I get that.

In any case, I'm sure we're all mature enough to share.

RE: Grammar error.

What grammar error? There's only one writer in this thread. You people write, but I'm the only writer in these here parts.

Ah, Colohue, I see you have two fiction series that have graced the front pages of UG.

But is this your thread?

I mean, just look at the facts. I have a thread, that happens to be called the ONLY Writer's Thread. Just sayin'.
