So, the first post will now be a UG decided on common and intriguing app list! Feel free to post or PM me apps you would like added, please include a description

I will not include task killers are they are NOT good for your phone, just google why.

Try and keep the list limited to more unknown apps, everyone knows what facebook and angry birds are!

APP LIST



Games:

• Zombie defense free - Fun zombie game, you control a group of survivors, build barricades, plant bombs, search for weapons etc.
• Free running 3d - Game where you steer a ball with the motion from your phone

Everyday usefulness:

• Evernote - App for making and keeping notes
• Easymoney - App for your budget, works really well. You can write down your bank accounts, amount of cash, incoming bills, take a picture of receipts etc.
• Barcode scanner - Scans barcodes
• Google Goggles- Take a picture of something like a painting, monument or something and it'll google that or show a special result. Recommended
• Do it tomorrow [/b]- App for writing up tasks you need to do today or tomorrow

Leisure:

• Google sky map - Very nice app for viewing the night sky, you can search for stars, constellations, choose something from the gallery to search for. It rotates to where you point it.
• Rage reader - Good app if you like rage comics
• Relax and sleep - Contains a bunch of background sounds for when you're falling asleep. Includes a sleep timer and an alarm.
  

News:

• BBC News - BBC news feed
• Al jazeera - Al Jazeera news feed

Navigating:

• Google earth - Google earth for android phones. Works nice.

Music:

• Mute - App for muting your phone. Just one press and everything (ringtone, media volume) gets muted
• Piano perfect - App for playing the piano on your smartphone. With some skill, you can press down three or more fingers and play chords!
• Perfect ear - App for ear training
• gStrings free - App for tuning your guitar

Phone related:

• XDA Developers - Forum regarding information and customization via routing and apps for all types of smart phones
• Wallpaper Wizardrii - Customize your wallpaper with more selection than available via stock android
• Dolphin Browser HD - Good browser for android phones
• Astro - Works like a file explorer
• Mute - App for muting your phone. Just one press and everything (ringtone, media volume) gets muted
• 3G watchdog - Keeps a track of how much mobile internet you've used, just type in how much GB you get per month and it tells how many mb and % of it you've used. Can also warn you if you're below a certain %.
• Kik messenger - Works like text messaging between you and whoever has it. You just need an internet connection. Can be used for sending pics between you, either a pic from your gallery or one you get prompted to take

Social:

• Google+ app - If you get a Google+ account, get this

well i got a 3 year plan, saved me from a 450$ phone to being 80$, but really at 2 years in you can get a full discount on a new phone and the 2 year plan was 350$ so it only made sense to get the 3, however im in Canada so everything will be different if you arent from here as well

actually thats pretty cheap for how advanced this phone is.. its the best android phone in canada right now, (well tied with samsung galaxy s i guess) and with the 3 years it was 80$, an iphone4 on three years is 180$ i believe. and the motorola milestone(really just a motorola droid) which is alot worst is 100$ on a 3 year here

i got the student 55, so 1gb data, like 250 minutes, a myten(put any ten canadian numbers on my plan and i get unlimited minutes and texts to that number) and a few other things on it

My andriod is great. I think it's the G1.
Simple to use, good for apps.
The only problem is you can't set it to vibrate when you receive a text for some reason.

The hardware on the hero is very outdated. If I were you I would get a newer phone. You won't be happy with the lag/lack of power. I have an eris (same thing) and it's fine only because I rooted it, installed 2.2, deleted stock apps that run all the time, and overclock it. Newer phones are smooth without doing this.


Open up the messaging app. Menu>settings>notification settings>vibrate>[always, only when silent, never] choose only when silent.

trust me, bbm is not worth it, i just had a blackberry,

only a select few ppl have bbm, and the only plus it has is you can see if the text has delivered and been read, other than that there is like barely any apps, the phone takes over 5 minutes to start, and it is laggy as hell.

tell her to put you on a myfive plan or something.

Literally everyone here has a Blackberry tbh, no one uses msn and i'm told that and facebook chat is how people keep in touch... guess im not in touch with the kids of today haha.

But the qwerty is a plus, touchscreens just have slow typing imo.
