VST Amp Tone Demostrations
So I thought I would make a thread covering the various tones that can be pulled from all these free VST amps on the web. I'll constantly be updating this thread....if it isn't closed first, but this is just a place to find links to good VST amps and to hear some clips of the amps being tested. If you would like to post a tone test of a particular VST amp then just post it and I'll update the main posts.
FYI: If you do give a Drop Box link or some non permanent link then please try to upload it to your UG profile or some permanent player so it does not end up at at error 404 over time. I will put dropbox links, but the sooner you can get a permanent link the better. I'm working on making a ROS version of every amp sim so you can hear the true potential with a professional set up. Using the ROS DI's from UltimateMetal forms. For my set up, I'm not using an interface, just a line in on the computer, and I'm using Reaper as my DAW and Ryan's impulses with Lecab. Guitar is a 2006 Squier Affinity with Barenuckle Painkiller in the bridge and Barenuckle Trilogy Suites in the middle and neck. Poulin VST's: http://lepouplugins.blogspot.com/2010/02/lextac.html AcmeBarGig VST's: http://www.acmebargig.com/ TSE VST's:http://www.kvraudio.com/news/13431.html Nick Crow VST's: http://nickcrowlab.blogspot.com/ SignalAudio's God Cab Impulses: http://signalsaudio.com/index.php?o...&id=8&Itemid=21 Poulin LexTac First is prolly one of my favorite's, Mark showed it to me today, but it's Poulin's Lextac amp sim, found here: http://lepouplugins.blogspot.com/2010/02/lextac.html ROS DI's using RED Channel: http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/.../all/play898659 Yellow Channel(almost like a plexi clean): http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/.../all/play891335 Blue Channel(like a crunch channel): http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/.../all/play891333 Blue Channel with Silverspike Ruby Tube preamp: http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/.../all/play996086 Blue Channel Plexi Setting with Silverspike Ruby Tube preamp: http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/.../all/play996087 Red Channel(High Gain): http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/.../all/play891334 Red Channel with Silverspike Ruby Tube preamp: http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/.../all/play996084 Red Channel Plexi Setting with Silverspike Ruby Tube preamp: http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/.../all/play996085 Lextac Does Rock?: http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/.../all/play918475 Poulin Legion bender: http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/brender/ Green Channel Rhythm: http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/.../all/play891426 Green Channel Lead: http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/.../all/play891427 Red Channel Rhythm: http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/.../all/play891430 Red Channel Lead: http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/.../all/play891431 Poulin LeCTO(Mesa Dual Rectifier) I believe this one just came out and is a replica of the famous Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier. It has to be the cleanest sounding, most smooth gain, and lowest noise VST amp I've used so far. Would do Mesa proud. Peavey Revalver
ROS clip from oneblackened: http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/.../all/play898096 http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/...usic/play892002 Wagner Sharp Tube Guitar Preamp(Mesa) I'm told that this preamp sounds like a Mesa of some sort, and a version of it should come with the Nick Crow downloads, this version is a separate download and has a nicer user interface. ROS DI's: http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/.../all/play898666 Metal AMP Room (Engl Powerball, not free) Demo from drawnacrol: Ruby Tube Clean Tube Preamp(Silverspike) This is a rather cool little VST amp, not really an amp at all, acts more like a preamp that just gives the "tube" liveliness to your tracks. You can make the tubes break up by running it hard, or make the tubes have some nice harmonics by running it soft using the sharper function, the limiter just makes it distort more. Acoustic guitar with some reverb: http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/.../all/play899757 Pod Farm X3 (not free) Clip by xFilth: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=9886211 Mix of Poulin Legion and Lextac By bender: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14691474/Do...0life%20%40.mp3 Softube Vintage Amp Room By SquierLolz: http://soundcloud.com/kevin-sneijers/rock-song-3

Either you have incredible mixing skills or that is an incredible sim cause that sounds so realistic.

It's an amazing sim. I was shooting for as close to the original as I could get.

I don't suppose any of these work on mac without using a wrapper of some sort?

I think there might be some versions for mac, I know there's a Reaper version for mac, so there should be a VST version for mac. |

There was a contest a while ago on a different forum with basically the whole song done, with separate tracks, and with dry guitars.

Yeah, I know there's a version of Reaper for mac, but I think because the VST's are developed for PC I would need a wrapper to be able to use them with logic/any other mac based DAW. Ah well. Also, Bare Knuckle pickups are awesome!

In the blue box on the lower right side of the page with all the names in them, it's the second one, click it and it should just download right from there. |

Those VST wrappers only work if the file is in a MAC native VST form, all these amp sims are ".dll" files which is a windows only file, you can't just run them through a programme and convert all the coding to Mac unfortunately. You can edit all the coding in a ".dll" file to make it native for Mac but you have to be a computer wizz to pull this off and it can take endless hours. Also you can experiment with WINE which emulates a windows system, one guy took Nick Crowes/LePou/Acmebargig amp sims and created his own app like pod farm by editing them all together but he never shared it with anyone. I've dabbled with this but its confusing to say the least. With the popularity of macs rising its only a matter of time before some of these free amps sims are released as audio unit components, until then we have to wait.

I also just started using lepou amps more, they are wonderful, especially the LexTac and the Legion. Much better than guitar rig, in my opinion.

Any chance of this thread becoming sticky. There are a ton of great examples here and it would be ashame for this thread to become burried.
