honestly i didn't particularly care for jarboe when she did that album with neurosis, but i would be interested in checking this out. is there an album without her/ with less of her, so that i can start there and ease into her, so to speak.

So my copy of My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky arrived, and the lyrics are simply phenomenal, they gave me chills up my spine simply to read.

Here are some excerpts :

"Through halls of glass, through tunnels of chrome, through corridors of burnished stone, through fields of crystal and the shards of my bones, may I open my eyes but not see what I am shown, may I carry your burden, may I follow you blind, may I burn your picture onto the face of my mind, through endless pleasures, beyond all measure, shared by creatures most unkind." from Little Mouth

"Now there's always Madeline, rising up from where our limbs intertwine, now walking a random invisible line, clutching like snow to the side of the vine...dropping a tear in the palm of my hand, making her mark in a desiccate land." from Inside Madeline

"See that man, ego. Inner man, hollow. Soul of man, fallow. See that man, evil. See that man, follow... Long may he live, long may his children drift through the wind, to think is a sin, to think is a sin, long may his world never begin." From No Words / No Thoughts

"Let's raise up our hands in prayer, walk barefoot upon this carpet of air, let's string up the man at the top of the stairs, let's piss on the city that's burning down there... Ride your mechanical beast to heaven, ride your beautiful bitch to the ultimate sin." from Jim

"Then I strangled your neck, because I love you too much... Far far in the distance, I hear the howl of a beast, I feel his breath on my face, I feel the edge of his teeth, and I'll swallow your sorrow, and i'll inhale your fear, and i'll steal your tomorrows, and I'll inject your tears. So please never forgive me, please spit on my name, but hold on to my memory, and keep me to blame" from My Birth

"Now the sun will hide beneath the ridge tonight, clear flames of revenge will lick the black sky, and I, I will sing as you eat their tongues, for I am the saint who will lead them to us." Reeling the Liars In

Those are pretty awesome. I downloaded a copy of "My Father..." and it's the first album by Swans I've ever heard. Pretty good stuff. It hasn't amazed me...though it sounds like the type of music that certainly takes some time to grow on you.

The first time I spun it, blasting it through my headphones, I was just kinda like woah what happened, but after another listen or two I absolutely loved it.

The only thing that really sticks out at the moment is "You ****ing People Make Me Sick." The ending is absolutely insane. I could imagine the end of the world sounding just like that.

New one has just clicked.

Fantastic, absolutely stunning, took about 5 listens, but I think this album is right up there for best of 2010.

Does anyone have tabs or an idea of how to play Amnesia (or any of their songs really)?

Swans are recording another new album this summer in July ! Yes ! I hope it's released by the end of the year.

Oh heck yes, cannot wait.

Does anyone here like Angels of Light? I think they're great. I quite love We Are Him, it's been getting a lot of plays recently.

Which is their best album, excluding "Children of God"?

All I've heard is How I Loved You, which I think is phenomenal.

I still haven't actually checked out Swans, though. Downloaded Children of God and haven't given it a listen yet. I'll have to do that today.

Soundtracks for the Blind. It's two hours long but very worth it.

Omniscience

one day people will listen to me

The Great Annihilator is probably my favourite studio album that I have.
I've yet to get round to Soundtracks for the Blind so I'll get on that soon.

Swans are Dead arrived yesterday. It's good, but I'm still yet to hear a release by them that tops Omniscience.
