I need some reccomendations for bands that sound like these guys-
http://abyss666.bandcamp.com/ It's not the genre I usually listen to, but I picked up the cd off bandcamp and I'm getting to like it. I don't think I will like bands where the vocals get any gruntier, growlier or shriekier than the band above though. Any recs are greatly appreciated.

Didn't listen extensively but it sounded pretty Swedeath-y. Give Dismember - Like an Ever Flowing Stream a shot. It's gruntier vocally but not significantly so.

I've not listened to any new metal in what feels like years. I've been exploring what Hardcore has to offer in terms of intensity (no cares ever). So what are a handful if the best of the last few years?
Currently listening to Pallbearer and liking it... but I don't really care what kind of metal it is... as long as it's somewhat new.

Just wondering, since I've been out of the metal loop since prior to my whole "I buy music if I can" phase, basically I don't torrent stuff if it's readily available via other methods. So how do you guys normally get hold of this stuff?

Fair nuff, the artwork for Timeghoul was so awesome I was considering buying it without even listening to it.
But obviously there are 0 copies left.

Melodic-y, progressive-y, fast-y, tech-y extreme metal. Imagine Opeth, but with faster sections/blast beats.
I like stuff like Akercocke, Opeth, Augury, Devin Townsend, Wintersun, stuff like that. I tried a few of the groups from the Extreme Prog section, but a lot of them didn't really tickle me.

I've only heard one song from the album in question, but based on that and the strength of their prior material -
Vemod - Venter på stormene otherwise hunt down their split with Klage and the Vinterilden demo

That said, to my recollection, Ikuinen Kaamos and Forest Stream bear some aesthetic relation to Opeth, so maybe check those bands out. On point, though, I would recommend listening to death/black metal albums which exhibit progressive tendencies, rather than seeking out bands applying a progressive slant to something which does not actually exist (in this case, the idea of "metal" being some catch-all, widely encompassing genre). Examples of some such albums would be: Morbid Angel - Blessed Are the Sick Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger Ildjarn - Hardangervidda, the songs Eksistensens Jeger and Svart Dag (The Nothingness) from Ildjarn-Nidhogg Burzum - Hvis lyset tar oss Demilich - Nespithe Gorguts - Obscura At the Gates - The Red in the Sky is Ours Necromantia - Scarlet Evil Witching Black

![]() At the very least, the idea of Opeth is embraced by those works, if not the aesthetic.

I'm already aware of At The Gates' first album and Gorguts' Obscura, good stuff. I can't say the same about Burzum and Darkthrone, personally. Opeth are hardly the entire definition of what I was looking for, I probably shouldn't have used them as the benchmark. Maybe something more along the lines of the other bands I posted? I've actually never listened to Morbid Angel, even in my death metal days, I'll check 'em out. I used to be a huge Nile fan, so maybe something with progressive approaches at a Nile speed. That sounds juicy.
