It's not the genre I usually listen to, but I picked up the cd off bandcamp and I'm getting to like it.

I don't think I will like bands where the vocals get any gruntier, growlier or shriekier than the band above though.

Any recs are greatly appreciated.

Didn't listen extensively but it sounded pretty Swedeath-y. Give Dismember - Like an Ever Flowing Stream a shot. It's gruntier vocally but not significantly so.

Melodic-y, progressive-y, fast-y, tech-y extreme metal. Imagine Opeth, but with faster sections/blast beats.

I like stuff like Akercocke, Opeth, Augury, Devin Townsend, Wintersun, stuff like that. I tried a few of the groups from the Extreme Prog section, but a lot of them didn't really tickle me.

You aren't really going to find anything like Opeth because Opeth do not fit into any extreme metal subgenre, or any hybridization of extreme metal subgenres, merely array a wide variety of sounds/influences by using stark contrast between phrases to provide the illusion that a narrative is taken place, with some of said sounds/influences being tangentially relevant to metal music (like BTBAM).

That said, to my recollection, Ikuinen Kaamos and Forest Stream bear some aesthetic relation to Opeth, so maybe check those bands out.

On point, though, I would recommend listening to death/black metal albums which exhibit progressive tendencies, rather than seeking out bands applying a progressive slant to something which does not actually exist (in this case, the idea of "metal" being some catch-all, widely encompassing genre).

Examples of some such albums would be:

Morbid Angel - Blessed Are the Sick
Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger
Ildjarn - Hardangervidda, the songs Eksistensens Jeger and Svart Dag (The Nothingness) from Ildjarn-Nidhogg
Burzum - Hvis lyset tar oss
Demilich - Nespithe
Gorguts - Obscura
At the Gates - The Red in the Sky is Ours
Necromantia - Scarlet Evil Witching Black

Eh, ya never know, aspects of Opeth (progressively arranged songs/works, variance between fast/slow, changes in mood/pace/atmosphere) can be heard in all of those releases with the exception of clean guitars and vocals (as far as I can recall)... except in a far more coherent, effectively iterated way! Only not completely unexpected and random, so presumably "monotonous" to the uninformed listener... meh.

At the very least, the idea of Opeth is embraced by those works, if not the aesthetic.
