Based on your request, I really can't stress this more, unless you've checked them out already. |

The correct answer is Edge of Sanity (unless you already know of them). If you do not, try Purgatory Afterglow, Crimson, or Crimson II.
Ikuinen Kaamos might work too, try The Forlorn, and Closure. Persefone-Core, or Shin-Ken In Vain-The Latter Rain In Mourning-Shrouded Divine Barren Earth-Curse of the Red River Also give Green Carnation a try, Light of Day, Day of Darkness. I win, trust me. You have to ease it in guys (like a penis with a virgin). If you just say, "Listen to Burzum, Morbid Angel, and Gorguts now because they're the best music everrr!!! Otherwise, you're poseur gay!!!" I suggest starting here, but don't forgot about the other recommendations because they posted some ace stuff. I definitely back the Arghoslent rec, and raise a Coroner-No More Color in response.

I can't believe I forgot Edge of Sanity, though I haven't listened to them in years... so that probably accounts for that, actually, haha. As far as nailing the Opethian ideal your list is by far the best of those posted so far, I would think.

I used to be really into that style awhile ago, and some of those are still pretty good to go back to and give the occasional spin. I'm throwing in Primordial-To The Nameless Dead also because I've been listening to Primordial pretty much no stop everyday for the past two weeks. I also third Ne Obliviscaris, and second Cormorant.

What are the best DM albums released this year? I don't think I've listened to a single 2012 album.

I was thinking this the other day, other than Rattenfänger who I just mentioned in the DM thread (and technically haven't listened to yet as the album is still in the post), Impiety's Ravage & Conquer and the re-issue of Electrocutions Inside the Unreal (which doesn't count), I've not bought/listened to any 2012 death metal.

Pretty much all the notable 2012 death metal for me has been death/doom or funeral.
