Which Delanos and Nordstrands? And which bass are they going into?

The Delano's are the MM5 FE and PMVC 5 FE/M2.

The Nordstrands are MM5.2 and NP5.

They're going into a Warmoth build.

I'd go Nordstrand if you're looking for more of a variety of traditional tones, maybe paired up with something like an East preamp.

I have little experience with Delano, but I'd envision them going into a more modern setup, maybe a build featuring more exotic woods and something like a Glockenklang 4 band.

Oh, and smoked porter is the greatest thing since sliced bread (and Red Chair NWPA).

I'm not looking to get vintage tones since I have other basses that have a vintage tone to them.

I might just get the Delano's and Glockenklang pre.

Sounds like a good plan. The Nordy's you were looking at are designed to be faithful recreations of classic pickups (old school P and MM pups). So you might get a nifty range of tones, but in the end it'll be like a pre-EB Stingray and a 60's Precision mashed together.

I've tried the 2 band Glock pre's in Dingwalls before and really really liked them. They mean it when they say there isn't a discernible difference between active and passive mode when the EQ is set flat. Very transparent.

I need some advice. Our rhythm guitarist who just joined the band 6 weeks ago is really not working out. Anyone got any advice on how to politely part ways, beyond telling him this isn't really working for us?

^That's always a bad time. You could always mention chemistry between the other band mates to make it seem more polite.

Chemistry is a big factor. He came into an already established band wanting to take over. He's already rubbed the other guitarist the wrong way and something happened with our lead singer and him (still don't know the specifics) that she's upset about.

It's probably a good idea to get everyone on the same page first, find out what everyone's grievances are. He's probably going to be upset no matter how it all goes down, so I'd suggest being polite but also being honest. If the chemistry isn't there, if he's being overly controlling or overbearing or something let him know what's been rubbing people the wrong way. Then hopefully he knows what to fix so the next band down the line doesn't have to fire him for the same problems. Make sure everyone's present for it, it's a band issue so you guys should all be there to back each other up.

I'm sorry you guys are having to deal with that Tam, band member conflicts are always a bad time.

Eh?

Odd thing to get mixed up. Warwicks usually look classy, Wals usually look plain ugly.

Those are cool even for someone who isn't jazzed about Tbird bodies.

On the band front. I swear to god this is verbatim. RG=Rhythm guitarist

Singer: can we do in the key on the record?
RG: Well that's hard key for me its Ab
ME: Can you drop tune?
RG: Well that's alot of work for one song. You can play in Ab?
ME: Yes if that's what key the singer needs it in
TG: Well I'd rather have you transpose it to A because I really don't want to play it in the original key. But if you insist I guess I can cope and "drop tune". That's probably what they did the recording because no guitarist likes playing in Ab.

Someone needs to get Dean to stop this kind of stupid insanity.

It'd be a half decent bass if a) they didn't slap the Ox's name on it and b) it wasn't a dean.

Also microphonic pickups suck, I'm going to stick a guitar pickup in my EB0 because I can.

Nothing, I repeat, nothing Dean makes is worth 700 USD pre order either.

Nothing Dean makes is worth $7, let alone $700.

Cataldo makes an infinitely superior and infinitely more Entwistle-y FenderBird.

You could make a better "Fenderbird" by picking up an Epi bolt-neck and swapping the neck for a Squier Precision neck.

After playing my friend's Warmoth build I was quite surprised how clean and transparent they were. In fact I bought three of them for my BTB's since they don't add their own tone like the aggies or bart pres.

Hopefully the combo of these basses work out.
