You guys will probably think I'm lame but I'm actually listening to F#A#∞ for the first time right now. I'm almost to the end and I think it's pretty good, especially the last few tracks. I'll definitely see them at the festival unless they conflict with anyone I want to see more. Also, the festival is all in indoor venues and such in downtown Asheville, which makes me worry it'll be hard to get into some of the shows (like the NMH one). Still excited.

hey birth of flower. you should do your own recording, it is really not that hard and there are so many advantages: it is diy and therefore economical and punk; everything tastes better homemade, which is to say rawer, more dynamic and more natural; you could put more time/love into recordings; or less; you could do more overdubs and other nice things; or not; you could make an album like the one i just dreamed you had, with the song with these loopy guitars in stereo that sounded really nice; your demos sound good, the step up from them to deity is embarrassingly small; tago mago the best album ever was recorded with 'a handful of mics' on a two-track and you could do the same thing except with all the sonic and economic benefits of digital technology; the velvet underground and nico the best album ever 'sounds like shit' which shows how trivial and secondary 'sound quality' is in the first place.

Yeah I agree with that post. Sound quality means nothing to me except for in hip-hop, where it means a lot to me.

EDIT - Actually, I shouldn't say that. For more complex stuff, I like the recording to be really sharp and it to be mixed well. Like I was just thinking that I'd like Bitte Orca even more if it sounded...better, idk how to explain in. But for more simple stuff, I like the lo-fi - intentional or otherwise - aesthetic. From what I've heard, BoF would fit well with that.

uhm, w/e. we don't have recording equipment. maybe if I ever decide it's worth buying some & learning how to use it, we will. our friends recorded their own ep & it sounds really good, imo. but it is quicker & easier to have someone else record & mix the stuff. I want the stuff to sound nice on record & we have the means to do so. we don't want to be a "lo-fi" band.

but anyway, recordings are recordings, whatever. live performance is the raison d'Ítre.

Bradford is so embarrassing. He makes it as tough to like Deerhunter as Morrissey makes it to like The Smiths.

Morrissey is handsome enough to get away with it.

i don't care for the smiths or deerhunter too much but i like both bradford and morrissey well enough, they are pretty good characters. there is a guy in my big auditorium class that always asks questions and annoys everybody, and he talks like bradford. i have not had to see/hear too much of b or m though, so yeah. i am less amused and more annoyed by john lydon than i have been at other times, cuz lately i have encountered a bit more of his old man shenanigans and less of the cute early pil tryhardism. i think last time i said something about lydon's tryhardism i mentioned that i wasn't into patti smith's tryhardism; that has changed, i dig her now, i think it happened when i finally read please kill me. i do not find her recordings to live up to her persona though.

what do you do after reading a really shitty book?

Listen to cryptograms, i'm late to whoever asked but its their best album as far as i'm concerned.

When you're done reading a shit book you should skim a book that you know you like for a day and then start osmething else. especially a book on art or design or something which is essays and pictures and it benefits from skimming. Ways of Seeing, for example.

I would never accuse anyone in this thread of having good taste, that is for sure.
